6. Custom trem arm - either with the part that fits with the vibrato made an inch or so longer so it can do the 'seasick chord bends' OR with a plastic collet/sleeve that prevents it from going all the way in (KS has improvised this with tape). The trem will swing very loosely as KS demonstrates - it's the exact opposite of the behaviour Johnny Marr specified in fact. Perhaps Staytrem will start offering an MBV 'swinger' arm as a replacement trem collet and trem arm to mimic this behavior! That would be cool.
Huh, plastic sleeve is actually a good idea, don't know why I didn't think of that before.

I do a semi-Kevin Shields sort of thing with electric tape where the arm is in the collet, but if it goes too far in it bottoms out so the tape acts as a stop to put it where it grips but it doesn't go any further.

I should ask a friend about laser cutting some acrylic for me...

7. I think it would be a vintage bridge as KS has mentioned in the past liking the harmonic 'pings' you get when a string gets stuck in a groove and then releases itself. He many years ago mentioned in an interview deliberately roughing up his saddles to cause this behavior on one or two guitars when they recorded Loveless. I was only talking yesterday about missing this with my Staytrem bridge.
weird! I know the sound and I think you can pick it out in certain eras of sonic youth but I'll try to keep an ear for it next time i spin loveless

You're most likely correct. But if Robert Smith got anything out of Fender, it should be a Bass VI. As an instrumentalist, it's where he made his most distinctive mark. As the Edge is to echo, Robert Smith is to Bass VI. Can you even think of another guy who featured a Bass VI so prominently in their work?
Exactly right! The Jazzmaster defined some of his early sound but in the Grand scheme of his career the Bass VI is his “signature” sound unique to The Cure.

I’ll second a RS Bass VI!!!
But, his early sound on those pre Head On The Door records are the best...to me at least :)
To me it's the Kiss Me album to Bloodflowers era that I love the most. To each his own. Never a huge fan of the thinner sounding, gothy stuff. :)

I give him high marks for sticking to his guns, the melted wallflower look is just part of his whole evolution.
More like melted clown. There's no dignity in that.

I was a big fan early on, the minimalistic stark/icy cold beauty of Seventeen Seconds and Faith is what I still love best...but the post punk/gothy stuff is what I grew up on, so there’s that ;)

. I think he can do as he well pleases at this point in his career...he’s earned that much, in my estimation. But as they say, haters gonna hate...

Didn’t know Billy Corgan was fronting another band...

Wild Nothing, DIIV, Beach Fossils... They're all great bands if you're interested in Kevin Shields influenced music

Wild Nothing and Beach Fossils are great. Got to see the latter with Rachel Goswell of Slowdive guesting on one track at FYE Fest last year. Never heard of DIIV so I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

Yes! She sings on "Tangerine". They seem like nice guys too from what I've seen on social media. Now DIIV doesn't sound that good live but their records are pretty good.
Apparently those band are all close friends too

Don't forget Ringo Deathstarr.

Not sure about a KS signature, since they're mostly stock. I'd much rather see a Bilinda Butcher signature Stang-Master.

I saw MBV live last week and Bilinda had a bunch of custom/customized sparkle mustangs in red, green & silver (hollow body) and maybe a jaguar too? I hadn't seen that many offsets together on stage since Sonic Youth. Debbie Googe had an interesting custom/customized bass too, not sure what it was. Might have been a Jaguar Bass with JM sized pickups in a Jazz Bass configuration. I'm sure someone here knows. Any signature Kevin or Bilinda guitar should come with a built in device that fills any room it is in with pink smoke.

Wasn't close enough to get pics, just a short vid of the stage https://i.imgur.com/Qonk4B0.mp4
