I like the Ruby, but the jack mounted to the masonite top seems like a bad idea.

Maybe they were smart enough to put blocking under it?

Make: Lomic
Model: Apollo
Price: $699
Body Material: Poplar
Scale: 25.5"
Tremolo: No. Individual saddle hardtail, similar to the saddles of an ASAT.
Is the lower waist anywhere near the bridge: Under the bridge pickup
Good / Ridiculous / Lame: I like it. Very similar to the Jazzmaster but just different enough.

Not sure if this is "handmade", as it looks like a production run, but it says it is made in the USA.

I bet only one of those Lomics exists so far. All the colors are just the grey one photoshopped.

You might be on to something, the green and orange look awful in particular.

Still, this is one of the few ones I'd actually play, but it's also the most boring, so that says more about me.

And those pickups will have to go.

Apparently it's the little brother to the Apollo:

I just realized they have beveled tops.

Make: de l'Orme
Model: Jellyfish custom
Price: Unknown
Body Material: African Mahogany
Scale: 25.5"
Tremolo: YEs
Is the lower waist anywhere near the bridge: A bit in front of the bridge pickup
Good / Ridiculous / Lame: A lot like the Jazzmaster, but with modified curves. The knobs are a bit far forward to me. And why does it have a blade switch? Other than being a bit snub nosed, it looks good to me.

I've seen this one. It is a great design and looks to be a quality build. But... it does not meet the definition of an offset waist guitar.

Hi There!

Interesting. You wouldn't consider this to be offset? Waist isn't symmetrical. I thought that was enough. Does it have to go in a specific direction? This is an honest question, and any clarification you could provide, will be much appreciated.

Thanks so much!!!

It's a good question. For starters, here is a great thread on What is an Offset Waist Guitar?

I believe Leo Fender, in a patent application, set the definition to greater than 10-degrees off vertical between the thinnest parts at each waist. For example, the Stratocaster is around 5 to 6 degrees offset, but is not an offset waist guitar.

So, the Ventura is about 6.6-degrees offset from the vertical angle.

(By the way, for whoever is interested, I am using a really cool Chrome plug-in there called Protractor. A must-have for every offset snob.)

Personally, I think there are important parts of that definition. You will notice that one of the things I note in all of these postings is the location of that lower waist. Ostensibly, the offset waist guitar was created to move the lower waist further back on the guitar, approximately an inch or so in front of the bridge, to maximize comfort while playing. Here is an image from the patent application showing this. (To that point, the original Gibson Firebird was not an offset waist guitar, but it put the lower waist in a more comfortable position, for example.) To me, this is a very important part of an offset guitar, and why I note it in these little mini-breakdowns.

The thread Sirpens referred to is missing some of the critical pictorial elements required to define the term of the discussion

Here is on of the pictures - and it's got Ferbis the offset dog in it :)

Thank you. This is indeed very important. And very serious.

Side note: I will goddam shut this thread down if it turns into a "What is an offset guitar" thread! Go do that shit somewhere else. haha

Make: Kino
Model: jam
Price: $2,944.26
Body Material: African Mahogany
Scale: 25.5"
Tremolo: Yes.
Is the lower waist anywhere near the bridge: Yes
Good / Ridiculous / Lame: In continuation of a theme, here is another guitar that is just barely not a Jazzmaster. Just. Barely.

Does it have problems? Yes! It has three pickups. Which, to be clear, is the wrong number of pickups.

Also... WHY DOES THIS THING COST $3,000!?!?!?! Are the pickup covers made of unicorn ivory? I don't understand.
