Is there a generally accepted model of Jaguar that is regarded as The Best?

Short answer: "no". I think it generally depends on features that are important to you, but top of the line includes AV65, American Original, maybe American Pro, and of course custom shop or boutique-made. Best in terms of value may be more difficult...avri, lacquer or roadworn, parts guitar, anything used and cheap...

Vintage, AVRI62, AV65 and Thinskin/custom shop models if you're going for traditional.
Johnny Marr Jag and AmPro Jaguar are good if you want modern appointments.
No real straight answer for this though, of course.

If you're talking about a traditional-spec Jag, I'd argue that the top of the line by far is pre-CBS vintage.

If you don't want vintage specs, it's purely a matter of what specs you do want.

Pretty much. The one I own is the best Jaguar of all the different ones that I have owned (six or so).

I imagine that's true, I wouldn't know. In any case, I forgot to mention vintage at all and I forgot to mention the Johnny Marr and thin skin models. So yeah, I guess my answer was somewhat lazy or remiss.

I posted in this forum because I was looking for "best" new/reissue model. Vintage models are way to expensive for me.

Well, you are basically asking what is the best kind of sandwich.

We can happily point you to some good sandwich shops, but you'll have to take a few bites and judge what you like.

That being said, my personal preference Jag-wise you be the Johnny Marr, hands down. I hate those tiny little frets (YMMV), but I have played a half dozen of them, and they all sounded fucking phenomenal.

Trust us: when you find the right one, you'll know. If you aren't sure, it's not the right one.

I like the AVRI 62, mostly because it would match my JazzMaster. I would be perfectly content with any of Fenders which have an unbound fingerboard, nitro finish, trem in the traditional location and standard Jag electronics. Unbound fingerboard and nitro finish are both for the ease of repair, poly sucks for touchups and bound fingerboards are more work to refret. I do not care for the trem moved forward as in the Classic Player, the string resonance is part of the sound.
Logic gates based on billiard-ball computer designs have also been made to operate using live soldier crabs of the species Mictyris guinotae in place of the billiard balls.

According to my reading of the internet the AV65 is regarded as the best.

HTH :)

No.

If you live near a store that stocks them, go play some! you never know what mojo you will connect with. I got lucky and bought a Marrguar on a whim and absolutely fell in love. Could have easily went the other way, though! good luck!

Johnny Marr Jag is the way to go if you want the best mix between vintage and modern options.
