I'm not sure about the guitars yet. But I'm all for Melanie Faye! :?

My favourite Anderton's moment is when they're demoing an AC10, and Lee says "Play something clean and jangly for all the Beatles fans" and Rob plays Run For the Hills.
LOL yeah that speaks of the amazing range of stuff he can play

I think it's safe to say that she's put in some practice!

I don't know what the policy is on posting links to other discussion sites, but it seems there are some quality issues with the first batch at least?

Whenever I see Fender do this kind of stuff I always feel like they must of discovered a huge stash of cheap parts they didn’t know they had and now need to use up or the accounting department is going to raise hell about the lack of inventory control down on the factory floor...

whoa, thanks for posting that link. I now feel extra lucky that I as able to pick up a slightly beat up, used classic 60s jag today. On the way to pick it up, a facebook memory popped up showing me it was three years to the date that I had a new one shipped to me an unboxed it with my young son. I returned that one because I didn't understand why the bridge saddles kept dropping. Should have kept it because it sounded great when the saddles stayed up for longer than a minute. Didn't yet get that a mastery or staytrem or even mustang could fix my woes.

FF a year later and I bought another one used of CL. I think that one was just a dud. You know how sometimes a guitar just thuds with no life? This was it. A mastery didn't help it ring. Making it a Jazzuar (JM pickups) didn't make me love it. So I sold it for pretty darn cheap.

Today, I found a great one. It's bright, but not shrill. On the lighter side for a jag and it's set up great. It's dirty and has some serious gashes, but I guess I got relic'd for free. It sings. And it cost less than the Tidepool player I would have purchased instead had they been available just a day earlier. I'll consider myself lucky, I guess. Might just displace some sacred cows in the Fender closet for me.

Is it weird that I feel like this JM feels more ”been there, done that” for fender than something more classic would be?

Potentially(?) unpopular opinion: especially in that video, and especially especially on that black Jag, Pau Ferro is beautiful. Better than rosewood any day.
I've seen a few guitars with Pau Ferro in stores over the last few weeks and they've looked really nice, much better than the photos I've seen online which just don't do them justice for some reason.

Buying sight unseen, Pau Ferro can be a bit of a luck of the draw as far as appearance goes. Can be amazingly beautiful, as dark as rosewood, or very streaky and grainy, or really pale and looking like 3rd grade rosewood. However, it's great material for fingerboards and definitely not a downgrade from rosewood.

I'm already set with an AV65 Jag, AV65 & J Mascis JM's & a 40th Anniv. Strat. I don't have a need for any of these new offerings.

I know this is the wrong Forum but Why no Thinline Tele's? They've got every other kind of configuration you think of?

I might be into getting the jaguar if I can put the American pro plates on it. Something about a jag without the plates makes me feel bad.

I gotta say, I'm not convinced. The JM and Jag are both pretty okay but kind of old news. I mean, how many HH/HS offsets have they released already? Maybe five, none of which has had even a mildly lukewarm reception from the public, except for the Affinity JM, and even that one people seem to mostly like for its modding possibilities.

And I don't think it's really about the HBs themselves, either; it's just that they seem to throw any old HBs in there as long as they are as cheap as possible. Why the hell not spend the extra $10 or whatever and get some decent ones; or better yet, get something that jives better with the guitar designs - WRHBs, dual coil gold foils, mini humbuckers, even FB pickups?

(And just for the record, I really liked the stock HBs in my Bullet Mustang even though I didn't think they were very good - if that makes any sense.)

Anyway, like many others, I think the Tidepool Jag is the clear winner of the bunch, but I can't see myself getting one.

But most importantly: am I really the only one who thinks "Player" is a super lame name for a line in general, but even more so compared to "Standard"?
