(Meanwhile the rest of us are still waiting for the American Amateur series FFS)
Please please please let there be something we can call the AA series!

Let's call a spade a spade and release the bedroom rock god series. Put it in a bundle together with a practice amp, patch cord, and full-length mirror in which to admire yourself.

If these are replacing MIM guitars...
Um, they're just replacing the Standard Series. There's a metric shit-ton of Ensenada guitars still in production for the foreseeable future.
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Why does Fender hate offset guitars? They hurt my brain.

Also, if you are going to do something different, why is "Making it a Gibson" the answer? I'd love to see Fender do Fender.
Judging from the extensive range of offsets that Fender currently produce, I would say that they don't hate them. I would say that for the most part, they don't want to completely ape a 60 year old design that found only niche popularity in its unmodified form.

It's never been a better time to be an offset guitar enthusiast. Fender makes a wide range of Jazzmasters and Jaguars at a wide range of price and quality points. Not everyone wants a 100% vintage correct offset. If you do, Fender has one. If you don't, Fender has other varieties you may want. If not, build one to your own specs from a nearly endless supply of parts and boutique builders. Find what suits you, buy it, and play it. Done.

I was just thinking: What if the Johnny Marr signature Jag wasn't released under this name? I bet people would be hating on it.

Or better yet... What if the JMJ had similar specs to this Player one? hahah

I bet on that as well. Not everybody, but sure most people would find something to hate there, but the johnny marr bandwagon is going strong.

I’m a bit interested with the Jaguar. I really like the Tidepool color. Pickup options are endless, too, really.
I just got an AVRI 62 Jag last month, so I’m not sure that I NEED another jag, but...that’s never stopped me before. :fp: ;D ;D

I just played a S-S Tele from this series a few minutes ago. It is nice and I liked it, but why is it $675? Is this what the Mexican Standards were priced at? That seems to be pretty expensive.

I’ll be curious to try the JM to see how it compares to the recent JM HH.

American Amateur series? Sounds a bit porno. Should indeed come with a load of worthless accessories. Supply with some sandpaper (for relicing), some polish and cloth (to polish the relicing), a baseball cap with Fender written on it, a strap with Fender written on it. A certificate of authenticity. And I think the Gorrilla amp needs to be reissued.

I'm a lefty and had the good fortune of running across one of the new Player Series Telecasters at my local GC last week. I spent about 15 minutes with it playing through a Princeton Reverb (which is what I have at home). Here’s my take on the new tele:

Fit and finish: I saw a reddit thread about spotty quality control on the player series. I didn’t experience any problems with the one I played as far as the nut being cut improperly or sharp fret ends. I was really impressed by the overall quality of the one I played, but I could have just happened to see a good one.

Body: nice lightweight alder body. Edge radius seemed a little less severe than my MIM standard. It’s my understanding that the new burst bodies don’t have the same veneer top and back. One of the righty burst strats I saw didn’t have the black painted tummy cut to hide the veneer. The bridge plate seemed the same but the tele now has strat style bent saddles. I would still swap for a vintage style bridge but the stock one was nice.

Neck: the one piece maple neck was interesting. The C shape definitely seemed a little rounder than previous MIM necks. It was comfortable to play, though I generally prefer a bit flatter slim neck profile. I wouldn’t be deterred by this neck though. I loved the satin back with gloss top. The fingerboard and headstock face were both gloss. No sharp fret ends on this one. Tuners were smooth and worked as should. I prefer vintage style but that’s just personal preference. The spaghetti logo looks awesome!

Pickups. Huge improvement over previous MIM pickups. No comparison these are really nice sounding and well balanced in each position. Maybe my favorite part of the new model.

Electronics: the volume sweep and of course tone sweep were meh at best. Easy fix to wire righty style though. The 3 way switch felt great and the jack was tight.

Overall impression: Based on the one I played I am really impressed with the player series. It was comfortable to play, resonant and the tone was spot on. I still want to check out a lefty strat (the righty strat I saw with a pf board looked great but I didn’t play it) and one of the basses. I would like to see more of the new colors in person too. Honestly if the one I played tonight was a bsb it may have come home with me.

Standards were selling for $599. I suspect the Player Series is at least $75 better than the Standards. Oh, and it's $649 for ones with maple necks.

Fender is promoting them in their advertising as Authentic & Iconic??????

"Authentic and iconic".

Perhaps it was a typo and should have said "Ironic" :D :D :D :D
