I mean, I hate being this guy on this forum, I really do, but I can never figure out what the fuck Fender is actually thinking anymore. Don't they have anyone on the staff that can see and articulate how fucking stupid that Jaguar looks with the undersized humbucker in the bridge position? I mean, they are so close in a lot of ways with this guitar, but of course they had to fuck it up with some stupid and arbitrary choice that just illustrates how that company just completely lacks any kind of design visionary at the moment.

I've always described it as Taco Bell, they have a list of ingredients that they keep around, and depending on the order that's the dish. If the meat and the cheese and the lettuce are wrapped up in a tortilla shell, that's your burrito, but if the same meat and cheese and lettuce is resting on top of the tortilla, then that's a chalupa. If that meat and lettuce and cheese is tucked inside a folded tortilla then it become a taco, but it's always pulled from the same checklist of ingredients.

And that's what Fender does... Jaguar body, check, let's throw a single coil and a humbucker in it this time, why not, who cares, get it out there... let's paint it fucking blue this time, we haven't done that in a while, get a little gray in there and call it... shit. Irish Mist? Cambrian Longing? Slate Steel? No, that's not it. Fuck. Well, let's consult the thesaurus and see what the fuck this thing is going to be. Have it on my desk before you clock out. Just remember it's fucking blue this time with a little gray in there, OK?
I totally agree.. but I think a lot of us are already satisfied to get a nice colour that looks like faded LPB, the right tremolo placement and thus the possibility to make it a "normal" jag..

When I think of it you are right but after all these years being wtf-ed by Fender's ideas I'm happy with that.. first thing that came to mind was ordering a white pickguard, buying a bridge pickup and all the plates - thinking "I hope they routed it already correctly"

Anyway, no matter what they put out, most of the people in this forum at least, are simply doing the math of how much it costs to turn that into a vintage style jag, I don't think it even makes a difference what they put on the guitar LOL

Is it me (probably) but is that Jag bass a short scale?
I think you're right there. 2D image will play tricks of course, but I measure the JM 'scale' at 33mm, Tele at 31mm, and Jag bass at 37mm. 25.5" for those guitars puts the bass at @30"

This is exactly true. "Finally, a stock blue-ish jag I can use as a modding platform!"

Why don't they try new models anymore?
Dude, people can't even take a jag without one of the chrome plates... new models is like, out of the question lol

They did the parallel universe and the metora... I don't think anybody gave a shit about'em.

I mean, guitar manufacturers have been trying... they really have, but in the end if it doesn't sell, oh well...

I personally really like this new jag. I have the squier HH fiesta red and I love it, and I have my 62 RI and also love it, there's room for all of them IMO.

I just wrote a long, grumpy old man post and lost the lot! So you are spared!

The gist of my rant was can Fender please stop hot-rodding and making guitars that appeal for people who don't like the quintessential sound of the Jag and JM. Like the colour though.

What I would love to see would be:

1) An evolution of the Mexican Troy Van Leewen Jazzmaster (such a cool guitar):
a) a Ltd run of new custom colours - maybe some super dark metallics like very dark green, very dark blue/black or Mercedes Blue metallic like Clapton
b) a big late 60's Logo to match the blocks and binding aesthetic (think I saw a gold one on a few vintage pieces so that it was visible on dark painted headstocks
c) Possibly 'F' Tuners - again for the later era vibe the new reissue ones are fine these days :-)
d) Normal upper rhythm switch but maybe sunk lower with washers as per Johnny Marr's take on the problem
e) A Wide Range Humbucker in the bridge position (properly made bar the Cunife magnets)

2) A lower cost Mexican made Johnny Marr style Jag.
a) Normal '65 reissue pickups
b) normal body contours
c) Staytrem style bridge
d) Some new colours maybe with matching headstock
e) Marr style wiring/switching like they did with Am Pro Jag

3) Fix the American Pro series
a) Fix the bridge/string alignment
b) Revoice the pickups so they sound like a JM/Jag and not more like a Strat
c) Put a rhythm circuit on the upper bout of the JM
d) Keep coming with the great new colours!

4) The Mexican Classic JM/Jags (in nitro finishes)
a) Bring out some less minging colours
b) Tone down the Trumpesque orange tint in the neck lacquer
c) Use a mint green guard not the cheap looking white one

5) Vintage reissues
a) Release more accurate takes on the '59, bring out a '63, bring the '65 back (that was really accurate), and maybe a '70s model.
b) Get the neck shapes right - they are obsessed with big necks so even their 'thin C' is not that thin - they certainly aren't like the many I have played over the years.... they just seem to be too big or mediocre to try and please everyone.
c) Stop using the '65 pickups on everything regardless of year (it is good but...)
d) Use a white undercoat so it ages correctly

Not much! Ha ha!

Hmm, it's almost like Fender is using these models as.............THEIR modding platforms.
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

I love the color scheme. If it has a similar build quality to the blacktop jazz master of yesteryear it will be a fine guitar!

Seems cool! My main is a FSR mint-bound Blacktop Jag, so this is a nice surprise. I actually like the PU configuration, and the coil split is a nice touch. Kinda reminds me of the Mustang Custom.

This looks like a gutter rock Jaguar.
