Also, pretty much 90% chance I put a tort pickguard on this guitar (kind of a given considering the forum we're a part of ;D )

Was wondering if anyone can recommend some good tort guards that don't break the bank? Obviously if I had all the money in the world, I'd get spitfire, but I can't justify spending nearly $200 on a pickguard (no matter if they are pretty much art for us nerds)

Well, any tort will be great but...you didn’t spend this skin money just because it plays well. Looks are totally a factor and you don’t have to justify wanting an instrument that also looks really cool. You can totally justify spitfire on CFM just for looks, because it’s looks will inspire you to play more and will make you love the guitar more...or not. That’s how I justify it, and I don’t regret spending that much. Save up for the spitfire.

CFM with tort is so classy looking. The CFM was released right after I got my OTM, and I kind of kicked myself but OTM is also one of my favorite offset colors. These 65 thinskins are great guitars, I am even using the stock bridge, first time I havent had a Mustang, Warmoth Mustang or Mastery Bridge

Not great photos but just got this bad boy home. Got pictures of it riding solo and then posted with it's little cousin, my much loved and abused Marrguar. Don't worry, guys...I'll be gentle with the jazzie...for a bit

Also, wow, you guys were not lying. This guitar is incredible. Even after 6 days in transit from Austin to me, it was in tune right out of the box. Binding on the neck feels amazing, not a single sharp edge or buzzing fret. I also LOVE this neck...so substantial, yet so comfortable. It is incredibly acoustic unplugged and sounds like a choir of angels fucking through the amp. Totally in love. Putting a staytrem on as soon as it gets here. In the future, I will add a tort guard and probably install a staytrem vibrato unit too so the arm doesn't swing. Sorry for the wait.

I gotta agree. If you're gunna shell out the big bucks for a CFM thin skin, theres no reason to put shit-tort on it. Enjoy the beauty of the stock guard until you have a little extra cash for a spitfire guard.

edit: DAMN thats a beaut

With everyone else on spitfire (but also b/c I'm dreaming of the day I can afford one for my much less nice but equally beloved Jazzy).

Meanwhile, OMG that thing is nice.

That's absolutely gorgeous. I'm really going to have to visit Wildwood one of these days.

Awesome - and I’d leave that guard right where it is. Looks terrific.

Hey fellow thin skin boys - did yours come with a special neck plate or something? If not, did old thin skins come with a special edition neck plate in addition to the normal one? I could have sworn I’d seen that before but mine didn’t come with one.
My CFM 65 JM came with a stamped neck plate with the serial number. My other Fender American made guitars definitely didn't have that nice touch.

The guys at Wildwood are simply the best. Got a great deal, nice setup, and superb service throughout the process. I waited for a nice light one (7.7 lbs lbs) and a chunky neck (atleast .84 at the 1st fret).

In terms of mods, I've got the 9.5" radius staytrem on there. Waiting til the strings get a little dead before ripping them off to put the mastery vibrato and Novak JM-90's in.
My Offsets:
Fender Cyclone - 1x Vintage White, 1x Pewter
Fender Mod Shop Jazzmaster - Fiesta Red

Does anyone have any idea about how many of each color were produced? I feel safe in assuming that it’s about 20 or less but if anyone ever got an official answer I’d love to know.

Do I get 22 points, plus triple word score, plus 50 points for using all my letters?

My two brothers and I lived, breathed, taped, and replayed those early seasons nonstop in the 90's. To this day, we can't make it through a holiday dinner without a few quotes working their way into the conversation.
