NGD (kind of): Charcoal Frost Metallic Thin Skin Jazzmaster
Yo!
Pulled the trigger on one of Wildwood's Fender American Vintage "Thin Skin" '65 Jazzmasters in charcoal frost metallic. It was extremely difficult to choose between that or Firemist Silver, but I think I made the right choice here. I was supposed to get the guitar today, but UPS sucks and I received the dreaded "trailer delay" message. The guitar was bouncing around Texas for a bit before making it's way up North. I'm hoping it comes Monday but there is a slight chance it comes today. I'll post pictures as soon as I get it. Staytrem on the way too. In the meantime, would love to hear about your avri 65's or the thin skins in general - this will be my first.
Cheers!
p.s. if life is getting you down, just buy a new guitar...it's a surefire cure

I have major GAS for an AVRI 65 Jazzmaster. I would love one in Firemist Silver/Charcoal or even Shoreline Gold. The pickups sound great and love the binding on the neck. What's the neck like on these?

Nice, I consider CFM the truly ideal offset colour next to LPB. That's gonna be an amazing guitar!

Just got a STUPID deal on an Ocean Turquoise Thin Skin and it’s made my dreams come true. I’m sure you’ll feel the same dude.
Had an Olympic white one this past winter and a burst jag a year back or so. They’re the best guitars I’ve ever played.

Congrats. I have the CFM '65 as well. I think I may have been the first or at least one of the first to pick one up (really not trying to sound like a humble brag) and it's great. I like the bigger neck, was just telling someone today that switching from the '65 to a '62 neck is a little bit of an adjustment. I didn't realize how much thicker the '65 neck really is as this was my first '65 reissue anything.
You made the right call on color too BTW.

Congrats! These Wildwood thin skin AV65s are amazing. I recently picked up a lovely Ocean Turquoise AV65 from Wildwood. She is a keeper! So worth it. Post up some pics when she comes in!

Congrats, OP!
These are NICE looking instruments, especially in that finish. Enjoy it!

Hey fellow thin skin boys - did yours come with a special neck plate or something? If not, did old thin skins come with a special edition neck plate in addition to the normal one? I could have sworn I’d seen that before but mine didn’t come with one.

The '65s don't. Some of the '62s did. I have a number of 62s and not all of them came with an extra neck plate.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Sat May 19, 2018 6:18 amHey fellow thin skin boys - did yours come with a special neck plate or something? Thanks!
I’d there anything that denotes it as any kind of special edition? It was packaged exactly like the normal AV65 I got but I mean, these are basically custom shop Jazzmasters.

My '65 came with a COA. I thought I read somewhere on OSG that the early ones didn't.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Sat May 19, 2018 9:03 amThanks!

Yeah, this one is a wildwood thin skin from last year so I dunno why it wouldn’t.

Cool to hear that they have a chunkier neck. I used to not be the biggest fan but as my playing style and interests have changed over the years, I've really developed a love for a big ole neck. That coupled with the binding must make the neck on these jazzies suuuper comfortable.
Biggest bummer is I have to go on a work trip on Tuesday for a few days. I get the guitar tomorrow and then have to immediately abandon it. I'm thinking about bringing it with me on the train....
