Looks bloody great! I used to dislike surf green, but in recent years I've completely turned around. In fact, I did my own surf green JM build a while back, and simply love the way it looks. For me, I think an appreciation of sonic blue was my "gateway" into surf green!

Perhaps as you say the neck/headstock is a bit orangey (if you think about it for too long), but honestly it looks fine. For the headstock refin, I presume you're planning to match the body colour? That would look amazing.

Cheers!
J.
Sonic blue is indeed a gateway drug. I love every stage of the color. I’ve got some interesting blues on the way. I’ll photograph them as a family (I know it’s been done before, but who cares?).

For the headstock the best option would probably be sanding it all the way back before spraying. However, you could just rough up the surface a bit to remove any polish residue, and take it from there....although you'd end up with a mountain of lacquer on the headstock by the time you're done!

I hope you can find a colour that matches the body - it seems there are endless variations on the Surf Green theme.

All the best,
J.

That's a beautiful duo. I've been growing tired of waiting for a FSR pink classic player to pop up. I've also been apprehensive about a 62 RI so I'm considering the lacquer version now. Glad people seem to love them so much!

That looks good!
I thought initially the colour was slightly mismatched but I just realised that you didn't polish/buff the headstock yet, right?
I wish Fender released those with matching headstock from the factory.

Thanks. I’m still a long way from polishing. That’s just one coat of Watco clear so far. I’ll let it get some sunlight while it is curing and see what it does. Even still it’s a pretty close match as is.

Couple of shots of the edges. I’ll wet sand and polish in another week or so.
