NGD 60’s Classic Lacquer JM
While I patiently wait for my “dream” guitar to arrive (shipped from Russia 19 days ago), I picked up a scratch-dent *rosewood* 60’s Classic Lacquer Jazzmaster. Surf Green was never really my color, but it may be growing on me... It’s really hard to appreciate the soft green next to the spray tanned orange neck. I can get over that because it plays and sounds ummmmm nice. I had plans to repaint this guitar (shell pink), and modify it right away, but that seems debatable now. I inspected the guitar when it arrived, and I don’t really know what exactly was scratched because there was definitely no dents. It seems untouched. This guitar has surprised me, and I’m happy to have a Jazzmaster again.
Here it is next to my ‘62 RI Hot Rod Stratocaster. I ordered a Fender mint pickguard for the JM today as well.

Congrats, I think a mint guard really makes the difference on these. Scratch & dent from my experience is often the same as "open box." someone probably bought it and returned it.

What a looker. Guitar center near anderson lane had an AVRI jm in that color when I was in college they were practically giving away for $900ish but U couldn't afford it. Enjoy! Where did you buy this one?

Got it off of Musicians Friend. I sold an AVRI Inca Silver JM a few years back for almost the same amount of money... Regret is a massive understatement on that one. RIP

I picked up one of these cheap recently with the idea of flipping it, but of course it plays/sounds so great I'm adding to the pile of other stuff I'd planned to flip but kept. It's been a few years since I had my AVRI, but this guitar certainly reminds me of it, a lot. I didn't dig the color at first either and was thinking about paint/body swapping options too, but laziness/cheapness won out. I did get a parchment guard for it though, the white just stood out too much.

I must be the only person who doesn’t mind the neck tint on these Good call on the mint guard, I have a fender AV on mine, and it is a total improvement aesthetically over the stark white. Though the green on green gives it more of a creamish appearance. I’ve seen some other guards on these that are more greenish but the newer fender ones lack that a bit. I don’t mind too much, though.

That even makes the neck tint less obnoxious.

The mint Fender guard showed up today. I ordered some Fender witch hats today too. I’m going to paint the headstock instead of a total refin. Cool guitar.

Surf green looks blue to me often. Maybe I’ve been staring at faded sonic blue and daphne too much? It will be nice to compare the three in person.

Interesting, to my eyes surf green is the paler, greener of the two (surf and seafoam). Could be the paleness that makes it seem that way to you, sonic is very pale and daphne is pretty pale in some instances as well.

Jazzmaster looks great, mate !
Is that a replacement 'guard on the Bass VI ? If so, whereabouts did you find it ?
Thanks,
Best,
Jeff.

Looks bloody great! I used to dislike surf green, but in recent years I've completely turned around. In fact, I did my own surf green JM build a while back, and simply love the way it looks. For me, I think an appreciation of sonic blue was my "gateway" into surf green!
Perhaps as you say the neck/headstock is a bit orangey (if you think about it for too long), but honestly it looks fine. For the headstock refin, I presume you're planning to match the body colour? That would look amazing.
Cheers!
J.

Most definitely. It’s happening. I’ll grab a can of surf from ReRanch and see what happens. The decal is completely buried... Not sure exactly how I’m going to approach it yet.JVG wrote: ↑Sun Apr 29, 2018 1:10 pmLooks bloody great! I used to dislike surf green, but in recent years I've completely turned around.
