Saw this in one of the various NAMM videos on YouTube (maybe Thomanns) and couldn't believe what I was hearing when the Fender rep said something along the lines of 'yeah we thought about making the control plate follow the body contour but decided we needed to be true to the Jag design. And we thought about a different switch but thought it looked better with the jag style switch plate.' I know these things are subjective. But if that's an aesthetic design choice, they need to fire whoever designed it.

It's very easy to shoot off explanations of why they're using off-the-shelf parts that don't form a cohesive design instead of custom-machining something unique and more expensive.ManaT wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 10:21 amSaw this in one of the various NAMM videos on YouTube (maybe Thomanns) and couldn't believe what I was hearing when the Fender rep said something along the lines of 'yeah we thought about making the control plate follow the body contour but decided we needed to be true to the Jag design. I can virtually guarantee that someone designed something much cooler, and their boss said "that's great, but too expensive. Make it work with existing parts."

Oh yeah I can totally believe that, it was more shock that he was trying sell it as a design choice. I mean, I know it's his job, he's a Fender rep, but on this occasion he really should've just left the elephant in the room unaddressed. It's not like they asked him about it, he pointed it out!mbene085 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 10:30 am

Wow, one of these is almost kinda cool, the other not so much. I think that Marr switch/plate has to go too. It just looks really out of place.

It’s a definite improvement, the tone/vol plate looks so much better following the body shape at the edge, and shortening the pickguard at the bridge looks better too.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 9:25 amlazy 3am photoshop hack attempt at trying to correct the design of this crazy guitar.
I agree with daemon, that Marr switch needs dealing with somehow, maybe go the whole Fender mash up hog and use a tele plate for controls + switch. I’d also be interested to see how the pickguard looks flowing past the bottom horn instead of filling it strat style.
Nice work though
