Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
One of my close friends at a local music store says Fender has been changing how they work with dealers which makes him suspect a re branding may be coming. It might not happen this year but it seems to be coming. The reason he, and many others at the store, suspect this is because of how they have been dealing with Squire. He believes that Fender may be trying to distance themselves from Squire. I don't know if this is true it's just speculation that I have heard.

Distance themselves how? They're the same company. Unless it means that Fender is maybe moving all of their below-Mexican tier stuff to the squier brand maybe so there's a clearer line in the sand?
Would love for you to elaborate a little if you wouldn't mind

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
What if they went the other way, and branded the higher end Squier stuff as Fender? Would you pay $450-$500 for a Vintage Modified JM that had a Fender logo on it? I'll bet a lot of people would.
It seems Fender had a bunch of guitars made in China that were on the same level as the Squier Classic vibe stuff, but it was higher priced.

Probably be a lot of interest in a Fender VM if they were Made In Korea.. I wouldn't pay extra for the same VM Guitar, built in the same place, with the same QC Guitar just because of the Sticker.Sonichris wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2018 11:12 amWhat if they went the other way, and branded the higher end Squier stuff as Fender? Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
I don't know if they need to "distance" Fender from Squier, but I definitely think they would sell at least a little more if they had Fender on the same headstocks. My wife saw me checking out squier jazzmasters a while ago and she kind of scoffed at the idea I would want a squier. Granted, she doesn't know shit about guitars, but she knows I have a Fender Jaguar and she thought Squiers were absolute shit meant only for beginners (she had friends who played music in high school who must've given her this idea). Until I heard about JMJM and VM's, I thought the same because I started on a crappy squier strat from like '99. Point is, if it said "Fender" Jazzmaster she wouldn't have thought it was shit. I'm sure a lot of people, even people who have owned Squiers in the past, would be more inclined to look at it because of the Fender label. It's like how some people wouldn't look at an epiphone but will gladly trade something for the crappiest Gibson.

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
I have no real insight to this, it's strictly "what if....."
I've been wondering if this might happen sooner or later. It seems the buying public isn't as concerned where the instrument is made, just the name on the headstock. Fender has been slowly going this direction since the first Japanese made guitars hit the US. I don't hear "it's not a real Fender if it isn't made in the US" nearly as often as I used to.
Gibson still has the "Made strictly in the US" policy, so having a secondary brand like Epiphone makes sense for them.
Fender might sell a few more, and if they sell for a couple bucks more, its a win-win for Fender.

I'm not so sure any Fender not built in the USA should have the Fender logo on it.Sonichris wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2018 2:17 pmI have no real insight to this, it's strictly "what if....."

How many more Fender USA Strat's, Tele's, P Bass' & J Bass' does Fender need? There are already about a jillion!
I don't care so much where it's made but I do care about Quality Control. In my experience it's lacking in some of the Squier Line. Particularly some of the Indonesian built Guitars. (Even some of the MIM & USA Guitars have QC issues) if I were Fender I'd be addressing their Quality Control issues. Then, rather than downgrade the Fender name, make better Squiers & elevate Squiers' reputation. That said, there are some good Squiers. Especially the CV Series.
Regarding Gibson & Epiphone....I don't know anyone who's ashamed of their Epiphone Elitist Casino's & many of their other Guitars. They don't need or want the Gibson logo. Everybody knows they make great Guitars..
Putting the Fender logo on sub quality Guitars does nothing to improve Fenders' name & reputation. Sub Par QC already affects Fender & Squiers bottom line & has potential buyers already looking elsewhere. Like G&L or Boutique.... Quality counts.
Customers shouldn't have to rebuild a new Guitar. IMO that's a huge negative with many Squiers.
If Fender wants to sell more Fender Guitars......build better Guitars & give Customers what they want at reasonable prices.

Well. It seems I’ll hold on for a bit to see the offerings.
