I think my favorite sounds right now are coming out of the CP jag HH

Bought it for 1/2 price online. It's a 2015, but still had tags and plastic on it. Probably just sat in some warehouse too long. I can't explain why, but it's such a great sounding guitar. Maybe the finish isn't as nice as some of my other guitars, but once I get to playing, it's a non-issue. It has a unique sound and I really love it. I had one previously that I sold that didn't do it like this one does. Maybe magic Ensenada wizards made this one? Anyone else got love the for the CP HH?

I sold mine too. I tried hard, but couldn't bond with the single coil sound I was getting from the split humbucker. Cool guitar if it works for your sound.

I currently have one. I rewired it; disengaged the rollers, made the kill switch into the strangle switch, and replaced the pick up selector switches with a tele 3 way switch. I found like Jestapali said, the single coil sounds via the roller knobs didn't sound all that great, and that it left the guitar very noisy. I found that when i used a strangle switch on the humbuckers it gave a much more viable single coil sound plus no hum. I got one of those drop in Staytrem replacement bridges when they still made them, and swapped out the pickups.

When i got the guitar in a trade the guy told me he already had to replace the neck once because of a terrible bowing issue that the truss rod could not fix. He bought another CP jag neck. Now this neck has had the same problem. Recently, i took the neck off, and for 6 months clamped it to a flat piece of wood. It was good for a few weeks but now it actually seems worse. I'm reluctant to get a new neck as this one fits great in my hands.

I got one of those drop in Staytrem replacement bridges when they still made them, and swapped out the pickups.

Just FYI, Staytrem is now making a new AOM replacement bridge that is designed to restore the original rocking design, so it should be even better with trem use than their old one.

Oh, that’s interesting to hear that, I’ll have to check their website. But I’m a proud non-rockin Mastery user on my vintage Jag; I just didn’t want to have to replace the posts on this one to get a Mastery to fit. I’d be interested to see how they make it rock, though. Do you have to replace the posts?

I actually really liked the stock pickups in these. My 2008 has been my main guitar for 8 years. I did swap out the pickups this year though:


Similar concept as the stock wiring. They're wound hot on tall bobbins, with alnico polepieces (no bar magnets). Each pickup has one alnico 5 and one alnico 2 coil. The 3way mini switches allow each pickup to be either an alnico 5 single coil, humbucker or alnico 2 single coil. Then standard 3 way selector, i kept the kill switch and low cut. (Note: if one pickup is alnico V, the other 2 they are also out-of-phase).

Can't really answer that question well. They definitely are not modern style humbucker (or traditional humbuckers either), and in single coil modes they're sitting more towards vintage output levels.. Probably more vintage but can get a lot of different sounds out of it.

Looks that way, not as bad as you would think. I actually lost the screw for the high e, so that saddle is held in position with a piece of rolled up cardboard.. But actually, intonation is pretty solid (strings are flatwound 12s, neck is shimmed)..
