Just picked up a VM surf green jaguar yesterday. I actually like the sound of the stock pickups, but they are microphonic — if I get into high gain territory, they start to shreak and squeal, so they need to go.
Can anybody recommend a good replacement set that would sound similar? My understanding is that the stock pickups are maybe a bit hotter than vintage jag pickups, so I guess I’m looking for something that sounds similar but won’t be microphonic.
Also, I’ll probably replace the main volume and tone pots while I’m at it. I can’t tell from looking at them what values they are — they’re just the little cheapies, but they’re unmarked (or if they are, the markings are obscured by the solder). Anybody know what the stock values are? I think I’ve read thast at least one of them is 1 meg, but I’m not sure if that’s the volume, the tone, or both.
Thanks!

If you're looking for something inexpensive, you could try some Classic Player Jaguar pickups. They're hotter than vintage, and I never had a problem with them squealing when I had mine. And yes, both the volume and tone pots are 1 meg.

What about potting the current pickups?

Re: Replacement pickups for VM Jaguar
Thanks for the replies. I ordered a set of CP jag pickups.
I considered potting them, but it seemed like a hassle and I’d probably screw it up. The CP pickups were about $35, and I recall trying out a few CP jags in stores and liking how they sounded, so that sounded like a better option for me.
