Does anyone use a Buzzstop on their Jaguar or Jazzmaster and like it?

Used one for years on my main jaguar. Used to consider it invaluable. Now I don't use it on a single one of my guitars.

When I had one guitar, admittedly I had some situations where I didn't want the overtones of the strings behind the bridge. Was doing a lot of syncopated funk rhythms in one of my bands and that didn't work with the style.

Now, I have the luxury of using a hardtail when I want the hardtail sound, but 90% of the time I use my offsets in all their un-buzzstopped glory and am happier that way.

They do what they're meant to. They increase break angle (unnecessary when properly set up/shimmed) and stop the ringing BTB (personal preference).

These days, there's no reason to have a bad setup, and if you want a JM-shaped object with no BTB strings, you can just get one (like the TOM-Stop hardtail AmSpec, Squier Jagmaster, the G&L Doheny, etc), so I view it as more or less obsolete. Product of a different era with fewer options for guitars and less-available info on how to set up an Offset, not to mention a la k of improved bridge designs like the Staytrem and Mastery.

I use mine out of practicality. I play in an aggressive manner and can't have strings popping out of their saddles (it was a 2-3x a show problem). The buzzstop solved it, and I went for it on a newer build when I had the same problem.

As far a tone, lots of people have lots of strong opinions (shocking, so very shocking), but I sound like me without the buzzstop and I sound like me with the buzzstop, so it isn't a difficult choice for myself. The one element I will say is that a tun-o-matic does not change the string break angle, thus it does not offer the increased sustain / less string breakage of a buzzstop. It isn't going to turn your JM into a Les Paul in terms of sustain, but its noticeable.

They are standard equipment on the Nash JMs. Compared to other Nash guitars they are pretty bad.

The Buzzstop to me has always been the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy of the Offset guitars world.

Some like em, some hate em... those that hate them are always loving bashing their existence to a bloody pulp.

Those that like them are thought of as nerds. Me, I'm ok with being a nerd. :boobs:

I like the prequels and my Buzzstop, had it on since it came out a very long time ago...Episode I era...got the guitar it's on before the Special Editions...it's old, and the Buzzstop works for it, always has!

Yep.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.
