My AVRI might be a MIJ

Post by light years » Sun Nov 05, 2017 6:48 pm

Serial starts with a V and 6 digits and it says the number is linked to MIJ guitars. On the back of the neck there is no "made" or "crafted". Ran the serial through Fenders machine and it comes up Vintage 62 SFG Jazzmaster. My question is did they make custom colors like SFG in 97?

Is the serial number on the bottom of the neck or stamped on the neckplate? If it's on the neckplate, you have an AVRI.

A super easy way to tell is just look at the side dots on the neck. If there are black dots there, it's a MIJ/CIJ. If they are the vintage-correct white/yellow, it's an AVRI.

The AVRI62 Jazzmasters and Jaguars were introduced in July 1999, so no, they did not make them in 1997.

Thanks guys! So the dots on the side of the neck are white/yellow. And the serial is on the 4 screw metal plate on the back of the body.

Yep, that's an AVRI, no doubt about it.

Again, thank you guys! So why does my serial start with V? I don't find that letter starting in the AVRI serials.

All the AVRIs have serials starting with V. Except some telecaster AVRIs where the serial is on the bridge plate and it's just a number.

Where does it say so?
Jaguar > Jazzmaster :)

Sorry, forgot about this post. Called Fender and it's an 05 AVRI. Was shipped to Musicians Friend in 05 then went out into the world and found me.
