You could probably use a little lemon oil to condition the fretboard and it would darken up, unfortunately there’s no easy answer for that orange neck tint...
Yeah, but I can live with the orange neck tint way more than that "chocolate milk" fingerboard! :)

How does that Neck feel????

Curious how it would look with a Maple Neck? I know it would play good.

I've been paying pretty close attention to the changeover to Pau Ferro on these MIM guitars. My personal observations is that on average, it is definitely lighter overall, but the one they posted on CME is probably one of the lightest that I've seen. But in all fairness, I've seen some pretty light rosewood boards, as well. Another name for Pau Ferro is Brazilian Ironwood and apparently it is real hard and less porous than rosewood. Here are some examples of the variation you can see in these Pau Ferro fretboards:

For the record, I just ordered one of the CME exclusive ones and Shelby P. assured me that it is sub-8 lbs (7lbs 11oz) and has a darker fingerboard, so we'll see. Keeping my fingers crossed. I personally would never trust Sweetwater on the weights they list. I've ordered two and returned two guitars from them and they were both significantly heavier than the weights listed.

You can really see how pau ferro fretboards differ in looks on Warmoth's site:

From pretty light to dark and also very figured.

^^^Those are some really good examples. The one in the first picture gives the illusion of the neck being curved.

I'd be totally fine with that second Warmoth example above. That's dark and uniform and would look fine on such a guitar.

I guess the key, going forward, on buying from this line would be to make it a point to request/specify as dark/streak-free of a neck as possible when placing your order (and hope for the best).

I've got nothing against Pau Ferro. It just looks odd (the lighter or streakier variants, anyway) on a 60's-themed model, as that's typically not what you're used to seeing on those all these years (vintage and reissue models alike). Just a bit jarring, and "something's kinda different here".

That said, they're still gonna sell a boatload of these Olympic White models. And I'm hoping that spurs them into considering some new colors for the main lineup. Give the Surf Green a rest...it's been, what, a solid three years now, right? Hell, even Apple updates/tweaks the colors on their phones, iPads, laptops, iPods, etc. every 12 months (and they don't have anywhere near the awesome history of cool, beloved colors to pull from as Fender does). It's a "want to" thing, I suppose.

At least they didn't go with baked maple like Gibson did a while ago...I never thought that stuff looked right. I think Pau Ferro was/is used in the SRV strats
