TVL Questions

Post by ThemBones75 » Fri Oct 20, 2017 6:29 am

I have had my TVL for some time now, and really like it.
Lately I have wanted to get rid of that switch on the top, I hit it all the time.
I will need a new pickguard to go with the slider.

So, if I am doing all this would it be best to just get a good wiring harness?
if so what value pots do I need? I will admit the top end on the treble pickup can be a little much.

I don’t know the answer, but why not just stick a piece of tape over it? Seems like a way easier mod. Good luck though! It’s a badass guitar.

I have thought of that, part of me wants to try a gold pickguard and I read somewhere a while back that the pots should be a different value.

"Should" is a silly thing for anyone to say. It has a 500k volume pot instead of 1meg. Slightly less bright, slightly less steep resonant peak.

I'm in the process of switching my TVL to a mint guard with traditional rhythm switch, and I don't plan on upping the 500k volume pot to 1meg because I like the tone just the way it is.

If you like how it sounds, don't need to mess with success. The quality of the components is excellent, and buying a whole new wiring harness for a guitar with AV65 pickups and good electronics is an exercise in wasting money. It's not a CIJ - the electronic components are great quality.

Hey I am all for saving trust me.
Do I just need to buy a new guard and a slider switch?

Yep, any AVRI/vintage spec guard should fit, and the only component that's different from a vintage guard is the 2-way DPDT slider switch in the rhythm circuit.
