AVRI 65 Jazzmaster-chambered?

Post by Brash83 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 5:04 am

Hi,

First post.... I have a AVRI 65 Jazzmaster (sunburst). It plays really well but the body is very very light. Does anyone know if the bodies in this series are chambered? I'm looking into getting a replacement warmoth Elvis Costello style walnut body and am thinking of maybe going a little heavier. That or the neck is very heavy...

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Brian

Absolutely no chambers there. Others may help further with wood knowledge, but I know for sure there aren't any chambers.

Thanks for that... its unusual as I find the neck very heavy and the body very light in weight.
Thinking the warmoth might be the way forward, just need to figure out which wood

Is the issue Neck dive? How much does the Guitar Weigh? About 8 1/2 lbs. or so is about normal.

Hi Larsongs,

Yeah, never heard the term before but it has neck dive for sure. Anyone else have the 65 avri ? Its a very very heavy neck for some reason.

Oh, lots of people here have the AV65. Jazzmasters are not known for neck-dive in general - that sounds like a real exception. In fact, many Jazzmaster aficionados are on a quest for as light a body as they can find, since JMs are on the heavy end of the spectrum of Fender guitars.

How much does the overall guitar weigh? You either have an unusually heavy neck, or an unusually light body.

If it's a light AV65 body, you'll probably have an extremely easy time selling it if you do a body swap. Lots of people would be into that.

Also, I wouldn't go with a Warmoth body. The pickguards are all sorts of wrong and the contours aren't as sleek. I have one. It's a serviceable body, but I got it in the early 2000's when not many JM bodies were on the market. There are tons of great sources for accurate JM bodies now, so there's no need for inaccurate ones (IMO).
