Late to the Classic Player Jazzmaster party
Picked up a black CP Jazzmaster last night in a trade. I'm really impressed with it, particularly the neck. Fits like a glove. It's set up with 10 flats, and just plays so nicely. It's my first JM with a TOM, and I have to say that I don't notice the radius mismatch, and have had zero detuning issues with vibrato use.
Basically, the things that I thought I wouldn't like about it (essentially all related to the bridge) don't bother me at all, and it feels absolutely great. I'll be dropping some different pickups into it since I have a Novak JM-T and SD SJM-1N sitting in my parts drawer, but otherwise I don't feel the need for anything other than maybe a pickguard change.

I really like CP's and I honestly wouldn't be able to tell it's a different bridge if it wasn't visually different LOL never bothered me at all.
Great guitars IMO, good score!

I nought a SB model a few months ago and I really like it, even the stock pickups. I am weird about stuff like that in strats, but with the JM I can just play it and like what I hear. It's very freeing to like what I hear from the guitar and not be constantly thinking about what other pickups and so on.
The neck is very comfortable and I don't notice any issues with the radius mismatch. I added a TOM with roller saddles, but otherwise the guitar is damn near perfect as it is .

The CP Jazzmaster is a bargain today (yo can get them for a little over $500) These guitars are very well made, and are very comfortable to play. Yes, some things (trem location , bridge, pickups) are controversial, but what is not? . FWIW I have enjoyed mine for years (after a pickup change. Did not like the "hot" stuff) and play it almost daily, even after acquiring an AV65.

No, it's not. However, it's very simple to file TOM saddles to radius them to 9.5", or to replace the bridge.
Or, as I discovered, to stop worrying about it and just enjoy the guitar since it plays fine as-is!
I'm going to be swapping some lower output pickups into it and changing the tort to mint, but other than that, I'll likely leave it as-is.

I caught the Black Flamingos a coupla nights ago and their guitarist had a CP Jazzmaster in sunburst with a gold anodized p/g. His playing and sound (through a Twin Reverb) were unbelievably good. Afterwards, I asked him about the guitar and he said it was stock, save the p/g.
Mine is modded with AVRI bridge and SD Antiquity II pups ... doesn't get much use because I seem to prefer a 7.25 neck.

I like changing neck size/scale/radius regularly. I find that I write different sorts of riffs when I play different-feeling guitars.JforJag wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 10:33 amI caught the Black Flamingos a coupla nights ago and their guitarist had a CP Jazzmaster in sunburst with a gold anodized p/g. As an aside, sunburst gold guard JM with black pup covers has been on my GAS list forever. I was disappointed when I found out this CP was black (it was a trade offer so I didn't have much choice regarding colour!) but black and mint with white pickup covers is badass enough that I'll survive
I have a Novak JM-T that I bought off a forum member that I haven't dropped into a guitar yet, so that's definitely what's going into this guitar along with a vintage-style neck JM pickup (I have a couple in my parts drawer). Can't wait to hear how they sound in this guitar.

Not sure many here are familiar with Yuck, but I've seen them playing CP jags and jazzmasters... sounded just fine to meJforJag wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 10:33 amI caught the Black Flamingos a coupla nights ago and their guitarist had a CP Jazzmaster in sunburst with a gold anodized p/g. That's really dumb. I doubt it would be difficult for them to have the machine do it automatically.mbene085 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2017 10:24 pmNo, it's not. However, it's very simple to file TOM saddles to radius them to 9.5", or to replace the bridge.
