Danelectro Dead on 67 - bridge?
Hi guys,
I'going to buy a baritone guitar and found a Danelectro Dead On 67 for a very reasonable price. It looks like a nice guitar, but I'm not really sure about the bridge (this one: http://www.sarcofagus.com/Sarcofagus/Da ... Bridge.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Given it's a single piece of wood, will it be possible to tune that guitar to A standard without any tuning issue?
I originally wanted to buy a Danelectro '56, mainly for the adjustable bridge - and because I love lipstick pickups. I wonder if that fixed bridge could be mounted on a Dead on 67. The holes seem to be in the same location, but the Dead on has a metal sheet under the bridge which I fear could cause some problems.
Has anyone any experience with this model?

I think that there are replacement bridges out there that are intonatable. I would also guess that the bridge you are talking about on the 56 would swap on easily. I have never had any issues with the stock bridges but do understand why people wouldn't like them.

Those bridges have a screw underneath that can be loosened so you can move the bridge forward or back and angle it. Obviously this is a pain to do since the screw is UNDER the bridge.
You really can never get perfect intonation out of these, though a wound G string helps, it's still not going to be perfect.
There's a guy on Reverb who sells a rosewood bridge for these that has a notch in the middle to make an unwound G string slightly more intonated. I have one of these and it's a touch better but not much.
There are replacement bridges for these that are more like a Strat, but a lot of purists will tell you that the rosewood is an important part of that vintage Dano sound.
There's also a guy who does replacement Dano bridges that are a Tele-like 3-saddle thing and he makes them in various materials (brass like a Tele and even 3 rosewood barrels).
So you have some aftermarket options, but bottom line is you just kind of put up with the quirks.

I hardtailed mine yesterday with an allparts Danelectro bridge. Uses the same bolt locations and everything. Just make sure on the spring bolt, that you tighten it up all the way, so it remains stable.
The only issue was I had to shim the bridge, so I used a thin washer and a hex nut underneath the top two bolts (which were previously the trem pivot points.

Oh man, I really love those Dead on 67 "Hornets"!
Had a Baritone in Lime Green. Didn't need a Baritone, used it as a Drop C backup guitar. Wasn't convincing btw. needing a bass case to carry it was a pain in the a** so I sold it. Now I regret it.
Should have changed for a "regular" model when Thomann was throwing them out (about 140€/and a few €€ more for the Baritone if I remember correctly)!
Would love to have and mod a cobalt blue one to my needs. The bridge would have been one of the first things to mod.

I love the rosewood janky-looking bridge. It's a huge part of the unique sound that comes out of this guitar. And I have found mine to be very stable.MayTheFuzzBeWithYou wrote: ↑Fri Jun 15, 2018 12:07 pmWould love to have and mod a cobalt blue one to my needs. It does add a certain hair to to notes which can be pleasing, especially clean.sirspens wrote: ↑Fri Jun 15, 2018 7:51 pmI love the rosewood janky-looking bridge.
