Help identifying AVRI 62 'Export' jazzmaster

Post by Pihabeach » Mon Sep 18, 2017 1:40 pm

Hi all
I have come across an odd but very cool jazzy
It's a matching headstock ? Firemist silver with unbound neck.
The serial reads V128xxx and the fender site says that it's : American Vintage 62 Jazzmaster Export.
Guitar serial number dater thing says made in Carona but gives no date.

Any of you guys have info about this jazzy or about USA made for export stuff?
I found this in Australia so it would fit that it was made for export.

Thanks

looks like a proper US made '62 AVRI. Most likely from the limited (Japan only?) matching headstock run. The standard run was always w/o matching headstock. Where do you have the "Export" wording from , from the Fender site, based on the serial number? I have never heard that before but it would make sense for that Japan only run.

Maybe someone else here knows better than I do.

That's one of the Yamano Jazzmasters. They commissioned a special run of American Jazzmasters (and Jaguars) in 2000 with matching headstocks to import to Japan. Several colors were ordered: Lake Placid Blue, Ice Blue Metallic, Shell Pink, Burgundy Metallic Mist, Candy Apple Red. 50 in each color.

Yours is an Ice Blue Metallic that looks like it may have undergone some fading. They did not make Firemist Silvers.

The case and pickguard are not original to the guitar.

Although I’ve seen a few Yamano’s in IBM turn greenish, mine went more silver like the one in question. Here’s a few Yamano Jag/JM serial numbers I've compiled:

V1289XX Jag (IBM)
V1295XX Jag (IBM)
V1282XX JM (IBM)
V1278XX JM (LPB)
V1262XX JM (Shell Pink)
V1294XX Jag (IBM)
V1293XX Jag (burgundy mist)
V1261XX JM (burgundy mist)

Thank you very much, thats very helpful.
I havent seen the guitar in the flesh yet, so it may be the photo thats making the guitar greenish looking.
The pickups have been changes to Custom shop JM pickups too im told.
Thanks again
