Re: jaguar/jazzmaster prices
Talking about guitar prices isn't useless, I don't think.
You'll need to be a bit more specific .. Jags are usually cheaper than Jazzmasters, CIJ cheaper than AVRI which are cheaper than (most) vintage .. CIJ prices are probably in flux at the moment since Fender Japan have stopped importing .. and if you buy secondhand you can usually get them a good deal cheaper, especially the AVRIs (although this may also change with the CIJ uncertainty).

Re: jaguar/jazzmaster prices
my avri i haggled down to around $1200 from sweetwater music. i just got a cij from ebay for $600, at around the time that auction closed, one for an avri closed at a little over $900 and there were about 4 more japuars going from $700-$1200, the expensive end being a couple of the KC models.

There's a 2002 CIJ Jag on ebay for $450 + $150 shipping.

I paid about $700 + $150 shipping for my CIJ '62 RI Jag. The only difference between mine and this one is that mine is black with a matching headstock, which is pretty rare for Black CIJ's I suppose.
I paid about $500 + $150 shipping on my JGS-78.

Seeing this thread makes me wish Al Gore had been born 40 years earlier so that we could have forums posts from the 50s/60s of people complaining about Fender's prices and new designs. We'd doubtless be astonished by what some of them said and even of who said some of those things.

This might not be consensus, but unless you’re buying something for blowout pricing, like 30-50% cheaper than typical MSRP, you should be buying used from individuals. Look on Guitar Center used and you’ll notice that they’re charging prices that are nearly in line/somehow often MORE expensive than the price you’d pay on a new one with the typical 15% discount you can rely on being there.
Shop local - Craigslist, mom and pops if you live close to a city, reverb and eBay even. There’s a huge difference in price between those two approaches that’s 100% to the buyers benefit

Re: jaguar/jazzmaster prices
I just posted a comment on the Vintera II leak thread on scoring a JM for $768. It was conveniently priced the same as when the Fender site was glitched at 36% off for two days. I hesitated during that “sale” and missed the boat. Saw a reverb listing and it was insta-buy. Had I not gotten lucky, I was set on finding a used one. The prices for new is absurd right now. Hunt for deals or go used.

Wtf how did I miss a 36% sale god damn it
VERY unlikely, I’m sure, but if that ever happens again we should be ready. Who knows how to set up a mass auto/text infrastructure that at least i can personally take advantage of

Re: jaguar/jazzmaster prices
So during the first two days or so of Fender’s Vintera sale, there was this weird glitch that had the prices down by 36% instead of 20%. I think the Mustangs were down to like $703? I had the Jaguar and the JM in and out of my cart a hundred times because I couldn’t decide on which to get.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 2:08 pmWtf how did I miss a 36% sale god damn it

I only have a Classic Vibe Mustang, as I just recently got back into playing after a very long hiatus. I wasn’t sure if I wanted another short scale or full. So I decided I was going to go to my local GC after work to try both out and then pull the trigger on one. Sure enough the price was back up to regular 20% the next morning, so my plan of “try before I buy” had failed.
At some point Fender “glitched” back down to the 36% for another day, but that was it. I missed that boat , there were a few posts about that here on the forums and when I went to check, Fender set it back to 20%.
I figured this is the rock bottom price they are willing to let these go for so I have been stalking Reverb and Fender like a hawk to see if it pops again at this price anywhere. I got lucky on Friday with Reverb.
**Edit** Tried to post an image of the one I scored. Here is the url: $768

Yeah, well... That was the point. Or did you just comment without actually looking at what I said when I replied?
