I am certain that G&L guitar are great.
But they seems to forget that an electric guitar has to be sexy.

Thanks! I really like it. Super smooth, comfy and fast. The other Doheny they had at the same shop also has binding, so I can't compare to one without. Different neck totally- but it feels better than my USA Fallout that doesn't have it.JagInTheBag wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2017 8:07 pmThat is a gorgeous example, SciFlyer! Tell us, how does the bound neck feel? The non-bound neck has a nice edge roll to it. Just want to know if you are trading comfort for style...SciFlyer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2017 3:28 pmHey dudes. Longtime Jazzmaster player (main guitar since mid '90s is a JM) here to chime in on the Doheny.
I recently picked up a Doheny through my local G&L dealer, and I must say, it is a wonderful instrument in every way. It has the most comfortable neck + some of the best sounding pickups I've heard in any guitar. You can get beautiful clean JM like tones out of it, but it handles pedals and loud stuff really well, too. My playing style is aggressive and I ride the bar constantly, and the DF vibrato will not go out of tune.
If you're lucky enough to be able to try one in person, do it! Don't expect it to be a JM clone. It is its own thing. Just an all around fun and inspiring guitar to play.
Here's a pic.

It's just a custom built 'jagmaster' of some sort. It's got a regular strat style vibrato, single volume and tone and the switch on the upper section of the pickguard.

DOes the lack of traditional vibrato kill the vibe that much for you? The body and pickguard are identical. The headstock is a sore spot for some people, but I think it looks great.frelonvert wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 1:45 amI am certain that G&L guitar are great.

Overall, it's basically a Jazzmaster with all the pitfalls engineered out of it. The DF Vibrato looks a lot like a strat vibrato, but it functions, feels and sounds way different. It can do subtle dips and dives like a jazzmaster, because of the way the bridge pivots on the brass posts, but it can also do crazy strat sounding dives and dips.
I found the blank space odd from the old school vibrato not being there, but it's really not much different from a ton of other guitars out there in terms of blank real estate. I don't notice it anymore (but that was from being around Jagmasters a lot and I'm long past that now)

B&B Necks = for me.
Thankfully they got the block size correct and they are not 'Gibson' proportions. Gibson blocks on necks for Fender-style guitars is a crime against all that is good in the world.

I love this look. All these great combinations coming out of the factory it's just slowing down my decision process! LOL. Not used to being spoiled for options.

I am leaning toward a Cherry Burst fully bound neck with a 12" radius, vintage tint satin neck, Q Sawn Maple, BirdsEye Board, Graphtech Nut, Vintage Frets, black blocks, black binding, Color Matched Headstock, Swamp Ash Body, Spalted Maple Top, Natural Binding, Black Pickup Covers, Black Single Ply Pickguard (I'd prefer Black Anodized Metal), Black Knurled Knobs, DFV, Locking Turners.
