easily one of the most comfortable AND great playing AND great sounding guitars i've had, out of 20 or so electrics.

here's my 33 minute demo of the Doheny... doing something probably nobody else does with it 8) :

NICE! Reminds me of Robert Fripp's Frippertronics type stuff.

Thanks for posting!

thanks, man! yeah - i was going for Fripp AND Eno on that. i call it Magic Gas.

G&L guitars are great for that kind of textural stuff. the clarity and sustain from the MFD pups... i usually use my Comanche on these gigs, but have been playing my Jazzmaster in bands a lot in recent years. so trying the Doheny was a no-brainer. the middle position is pretty darn quiet, good for the compressed and sustained ambient tones that i can layer in the loop. then either the neck or bridge pups solo can cut easily for the leads.

actually i ginked the link - here's the full version from the start:

Unlike Fender, G&L seem to give any sort of option that you want.
There is the Fender Custom Shop & Mod Shop but G&L seem to be a little more active in this area.
Realize this can cost extra but it is nice to see.

Sparkle finish? No problem
Competition stripes? Of course
Blocks and maple? Not my choice but yes

I love G&L finish options. If they made a short scale version of these things I would be in trouble. :?

Those competition stripes are too wide. :-/

I don't understand how there are so many that come up with options not listed on their website or dealer price sheets. Can I just request something weird and maybe they'll agree to do it?

You can get whatever you want from G&L - they’ll actually do anything you request.

FYI, you can now buy the USA Doheny from Musician's Friend/Guitar Center. Surf green only, though. With the 15% Memorial Day coupon, that brings the price down to $1190 (plus 8% back in "Backstage Pass" points if you sign up- that's $95).

yeah! i had the idea just before starting, and told my girlfriend to ring me when i give her the nod. you can see her legs on the opening shot, lounging up front on the floor.
thank goodness the phone bell pitch is actually a G and not something in between frets. i didn't even think to check the pitch beforehand

yeah - i've played G&L's for 20 years, i've been in touch with them over the years, and it strikes me that the Doheny has invigorated the crew over there and they've been enjoying experimenting with ideas, like the JM MFD humbucker.
i started bugging them some years ago about doing a JM, and at one point one of the guys asked me exactly how i'd want to spec mine. turns out when they finally announced the Doheny, i could get the maple BB&B and black pup covers, knobs etc. that i listed back then. so i got one! only thing i couldn't get was the gold anodized guard.

imagine my surprise when i saw one with a gold guard at NAMM! i went a little nuts. but it never was an an option (so far). i asked the builder Dave and they just had the idea one day, and ordered up a small batch of those guards to build with. i pleaded with them long enough that they promised to set one aside for me... it just arrived in the mail yesterday!

Anybody waiting for their custom Doheny? I ordered mine two days short of two months ago. The guy at the shop said they usually take about 6 weeks. I'm trying to be patient but... I reallllly want to play it.

Anyone else having a long wait?

Lovely group you've got there. Your Doheny is almost my perfect guitar, except I also want the traditional rhythm circuit controls. I wonder if G&L will ever offer this as an option on their pick guards? As pointed out by another poster above, the rhythm circuit cavity is sitting there under the guard waiting to be used!
I've got a Comanche and an ASAT Bluesboy, and :-* them both, so a Doheny is very much on my radar.
