Isn't that something... I wonder what else there is to that other than what meets the eye.

They are marketed as MFD pickups. So they wont be standard JM style. Not sure what the extra knob is for. I guess they have separate tone knobs.

Yeah, I'm sure it's a nice guitar, and I always kind of wanted to see what G&L would do with the offset, but there's nothing about it that really grabs me. The G&L tremolo is fine, the MFD pickups are great, still... it's just another Jazzmaster for people that really don't get the Jazzmaster.

Probably a very good take on it, though, and it's always hard for me to bad mouth my beloved G&L.

I agree. The strat style trem ruins it for me sadly. If they had more of a traditional trem with an upgraded bridge I would be tempted because I am sure the pickups sound good.

G&L's vibrato bridge is the best and most problem-free of any Leo design, and I say that as a diehard Offset vibrato fan.

MFD pickups with what is probably the PTB (passive treble and bass) tone stack, plus that incredible vibrato and G&L quality? Not to mention the Offset ergonomics and looks.

It's not for me, but that's one heck of a combination for a workhorse guitar. It's basically what the new Professional Series offsets are supposed to be.

Right. That's kind of what I was hoping for. This is playing it safe, like they are jumping on the bandwagon halfheartedly. Nothing new was actually created for this guitar other than the name.

I hate to disagree, but I don't see what's so wonderful about the G&L vibrato. It works well, I'll grant, but it sends my guitars out of tune just as thoroughly as any other vibrato unit that I ever have used. There's no magic that. It's a good feeling unit, though.

Kind of ho-hum to me. I'd like to see them load Jazzmaster copies with MORE electronics instead of less.

Here we have all these new things, sustainers, divided pickups, the ability to fabricate new and interesting vibrato units with unique setups, and so on, and still the main thing is throw 2-3 knobs on there and a 3-way switch and claim the old myths of "the Rhythm circuit is useless (I use it all the time)" and "The Vibrato is an unworkable mess" (gee, and I got done testing my home made Fuzz with one and got a MONDO Bar dive out of it).

Interesting that G&L have finally jumped onto the offset shape wagon.

I'll bet they play and sound fantastic. I'm a big fan of the PTB controls, and the pickups are probably the MFD soap bars under JM covers, so will sound excellent. The G&L trem is super smooth and positive to use, and if it is throwing the guitar out of tune, it's probably not the trem itself, but the nut/tuners to blame. My take on this is that because a strat style trem has a much bigger range of tension change than a JM/Jag trem, this exposes any other problems with the nut/tuner system.

But....

I am not into the simplified offsets.

As a pickup and electrics tinkerer, taking away the rhythm circuit takes away lots of potential options and fun. Now it's just an offset shaped ASAT tele special (but with a bass control).

But for those who want the simplified offset, these would probably smoke a Fender.

Somebody please explain that name. And if you're Irish or Ireland-adjacent, please provide pronunciation guidance.

Yeah, seems like competition, depending on its price. G&L apparently has the switch set a little more out of the way. I don't really like Strat tremolos on offsets, though. Still nice to see a new offering in the G&L catalogue.

Interesting to think what they have done to the instrument to make it innovative. They've got the pickup selector location correct at least! I've only played one G&L guitar - their Mustang equivalent - and couldn't get on with the size of the neck, it was far too fat for my tastes.

It's a Beach, so I guess it's a tedious Surf reference. I think they are going for the boomers in Hawaiians, flipflops and shorts market, which handily also covers the blooze daddy in Hawaiian, flipflops and shorts market.
