Somebody please explain that name. And if you're Irish or Ireland-adjacent, please provide pronunciation guidance.
Doheny is a surf spot in South Orange County, Califonia

DOE - HEEN - EE

Frankly, however you pronounce it, G&L naming the guitar after a surfing location doesn't speak very highly to their understanding of the Jazzmaster that they are reluctantly- and somewhat half-assedly- aping. I've been irritated by the name of the guitar since I read it. They might as well called it the "Wipeout" or the "Jan and Dean" or some shit.

Probably this entire community was founded around people who wanted to talk about Jazzmasters and Jaguars and were tired of hearing "those guitars are only good for surf" everywhere else, and here comes G&L pretty much showing the same knowledge of these guitars as I encountered in 1993.

I'm sure it's a fine guitar, and G&L makes amazing instruments as far as build quality goes. I always say that if I was actually starting a guitar collection from scratch, based on what I know now, it would have a lot more G&L and a lot less Fender and Gibson.

But I would not buy this if I wanted a Jazzmaster. It's just another Jazzmaster for people that don't like Jazzmasters.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

G&L Jan & Dean??!?!? Sign me up! :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

24" scale. Instead of calling it 'offset' you could say it has a Dead Man's Curve.

Personally, I think this thing is wonderful! I’ve always wanted a hard tail JM style guitar. If a Tribute model comes along, I’ll be sure to snatch it.

I'd buy that too.
There's not enough shortscale models for people to choose from.

Although this Guitar isn't of interest to me, since I already an AV65 JM, I have no problem with the name. I grew up Surfing all over Southern California including Doheney. Which is a cool little Beach in the cool little Town of Dana Point. Great location!!!!

With respect to G&L's use of the name "Doheney" it pays tribute to the Genre of music that kept the Jazzmaster from extinction in the '60's. Way before Grunge & all that other stuff...... Good on G&L for respecting the heritage...

Yeah, to each their own. It's not a big deal to me, just kind of a groaner. If I had surfed the beach or any beach I might feel differently about it.

This one was ordered by a shop in St.Paul, Minnesota. I would bet money that whoever ordered it is a Minnesota Wild fan.

I’m not sure if anyone else has confirmed yet, but on the G&L Instagram page, I asked about a Tribute model and they said they’re planning a spring release.

I look at the Doheny as an ASAT Special/S-500 hybrid. Viewed that way, it's pretty cool. As a Jazzmaster, not so much.

Hmmm, this may put my ASAT Special Tribute acquisition plans on hold...

LMAO
I'm guessing they picked up most of the North Stars fans that didn't follow them after their move to Dallas. Wild's an alright team, though (for a US hockey team, that is)

From the start I've seen it as G&L doing nothing more than using the body shape and pickup concept (wide bobbins and formvar wire) with an offset body (why not one that Leo made?).
It's not a Jazzmaster for people who hate jazzmasters (I'd usually be one of the 1st to throw stones); it's a G&L for people who don't want their other body shapes. I feel like they left enough spirit of the instrument intact here, unlike the Jagmaster, Suhr and other similar instruments.
It's a Doheny.

Several people saying it's sad they named it after a beach and surf while it has a 'strat vibrato'. Strats were everywhere on surf albums.
Besides, this is a DFV and feels quite different from the old Strat vibratos. You can even go subtle with them like a Jazz/Jag, not quite, but close enough.
