Looks like the Tribute Doheny is up for presale:

These look quite nice and the price is good. I was hoping for a hardtail Tribute model. But maybe they just haven’t announced it yet.

I just confirmed from Prymaxe that they're expecting these in May. I was really hoping for a matching headstock, but there's rattlecans for that.

Stick a block of wood in the trem cavity, and boom! Hardtail!

I want to see a pic of the Tribute Doheny in Lake Placid Blue. I bet it looks great.

Me too. This is the one I'm excited about. What kind of pickguard is it going to have? I NEED TO KNOW!

All of these need tort. I used to hate tort. Something is wrong with me.

I'm pretty sure they're all going to have a simple 3 ply white guard. I wonder if there will be aftermarket guards for these eventually.

Tort looks badass on LPB.

And if the American pickguards will fit the Tribute series.

From the Horses Mouth:
NEW! Doheny
Finishes
· Jet Black, 3-ply White pickguard, tinted gloss neck with Maple fingerboard and black block inlays
· Olympic White, 3-ply black pickguard, tinted gloss neck and Maple fingerboard and black block inlays
· Surf Green, 3-ply white pickguard, tinted gloss neck and Brazilian Cherry fingerboard with white pearloid block inlays
· Lake Placid Blue, 3-ply white pickguard, tinted gloss neck and Brazilian Cherry fingerboard with white pearloid block inlays
Body wood Basswood
Neck wood Hard-Rock Maple
Neck dimensions 1 5⁄8” width at nut, 9.5” radius
Pickups Two wide bobbin G&L Magnetic Field Design pickups
Controls 3-position pickup selector, volume, PTB system
Bridge G&L Dual-FulcrumTM vibrato
So, trem block if you can't stand the DF- I STRONGLY suggest using the vibrato before reflexively blocking it- it is a well-engineered unit. As for USA pick-guards swapping onto Tributes- likely NO. This hasn't been the case for any other Tribute model, no reason to suspect this would have changed for Doheny. No big deal, most places can make one based on a template or pattern one off of your current one.

Give the trem a shot. It's not a Fender, these 2 point systems actually work. Still, there are advantages to a hard tail too.

Yes this may just be the ticket to a cool looking guitar in blue that is relatively affordable - e.g. compared to a Squier J. Mascis with possible mandatory mods (cough cough). I'm not driven by need for a vintage JM feel or sound as I only recently became aware of them. There are only a few demos of the regular Doheny on YouTube. I'm guessing the Tributes sound pretty close to those.

The pickups will likely be the same as the US versions, as I'm pretty sure that all the MFDs variations are US made in house. Not sure if the PTB wiring will be as good as the US, but those MFD JM pickups should be good to go.

edit: If the LPB is a sure thing, I'll definitely be swayed to pickup the tribute. LPB is one of my favourite colours and it doesn't pop up much on guitars I want.

I've been planning on getting a LPB Doheny with Tort pickguard and rosewood fretboard, like this:
Image

But all the ones I have seen pictures of lately look more like this:

Does anyone own one? Does it look more like the first picture or the second picture. I know it's just color balancing, but those look like two different looks, tonally, to me.

I am tempted to order an Emerald Blue with tort and rosewood. This looks pretty good:

Also, here is a thread where you can drool over all the custom orders being shipped out:

I can't tell you what the Doheny will look like, but my LPB Tribute Legacy looks like the second picture.

From what I understand, the problem with "Lake Placid Blue" is that all the cool vintage LPB Fenders you see weren't actually that color when they were painted in the '60s- the color has darkened over time. So, there are many different interpretations of the color. I personally dig the darker, more Ocean Turquoise version, but the brighter one is cool, too. Especially with a block inlay neck and matching headstock.

My favourite shade of LPB is the dark one Fender Japan called Old Lake Placid Blue. Sometimes I see guitars labelled with LPB so light it almost looks like Ice Blue Metallic.
