Orange-Ish CAR looks best. I really dislike the darker tones. CAR is not my favorite but can look amazing.

Oh; I didn't know that; too bad they didn't issue more years in the classic Laquer.MrFingers wrote: @otis: that's a parallel line I think: you've got the regular Classic '60 (white, black, CAR), which is poly (I have the white one), and then there is the Classic Lacquer, but those don't exist in '60 version (only white blonde in the '50).

Thank goodness Maulden7 was farsighted enough to avoid the photobucket fiasco when he posted those pictures.

My friend has a Marr Jag in the candy orange color I'm begging him to send to our resident headstock painter to just get done in CAR because it looks so close. He has an MIJ JM with a B&B neck and no matching cap either which is a travesty it being so close to perfect and all. My vintage modified Jaguar is surf green but I really, really wish it were CAR. Might pick up another one just for the hell of it if I can find a deal

Ha! Sorry about that - the Shell Pink is my refinished Squier J Mascis JM with AV '65 pickups. Awesome reliable gigging guitar.Danley wrote:...distracted by the Capri Orange and Shell Pink now

Re: Candy Apple Red appreciation thread
In the meanwhile I've got 3 CAR guitars, and I'd like to show them side by side to highlight the differences between them.
From left to right: My freshly refinned '64 Jazzmaster with matching headstock, my AV '64 Telecaster and my AV '65 Jaguar.
All are nitro-finished, all have a silver metallic undercoat.
The two Fender-finished guitars seem to show a different hue from the same basic color. The telecaster presumably has fewer or thinner layers than the Jaguar. The tele has the lightest red and of a more orangy color, while the Jaguar has the most intense radiant red of the 3.
The Jazzmaster is the darkest of the 3, and presumably has the most layers of transparant red on top of the silver, but at the same time it's red color is the least intense red. Maybe the specific pigment used or the mixture could be responsible for this, I'm only guessing here.
It's headstock, on the contrary, is paler than the telecaster's red.
Non of these guitars have substantially faded from light exposure. Untill now, they were kept mainly in their cases.
I'll post some comparison shots of these beautifull hues of CAR. I'm curious to see how these will fade paler in time.
I hope you can see their differences clearly in the pictures. In real life, they're very evident.

Here's mine...
A 95 (I think) MIJ Jazzmaster with its OTM cousin. Sorry for the awful photo.
I've had it from new, and mine has definitely darkened with age, but looks good, I think.

Re: Candy Apple Red appreciation thread
Speaking of 94-95 MIJ Jazzmasters. Somebody just came home from getting a custom-carved bone nut installed to replace the shattered one that'd been hanging on for ages, and some beauty shots seemed apropos (the original pickguard is being stored for safekeeping -- that's an MIJ tort from a japanese eBay seller). Otherwise its bone stock except for the new nut and the Pickup Wizard pickups I got from mixtery. I'd been thinking of redoing the wiring, but everything's so nicely aged and it all works perfectly. I think I'm just going to leave it and get another project to tinker with. This thing is perfect as it is.)
