Candy Apple Red appreciation thread
Yesterday I was playing my CAR telecaster in the couch when the sun hit us.
I was so overwhelmed by the beaty of this intens and immencely diverse color that I stopped playing altogether and had to take my camera.
Now, I know a telecaster isn't an offset, but this is about the color really.
CAR is often thought to be boring because Fender has used it so often, but with good reason if you ask me...
I noticed big differences in the actual CAR Fenders I had over time.
I liked them all, but this latest AV series is stunning.
Please post your Candy apple red guitars

It's always been a surprise to me to read on OSG about so many people hating CAR ... My favorite Fender red.
Here's my 1985 MIJ "Contemporary Strat" (my first electric, I still have it partly out of nostalgia, partly because I love how it looks; I'm not so hot about the 12" fingerboard and Floyd-like trem though ).

Is that the classic 60s telecaster? I'm cisidering that very one. I don't need another tele, but I' want to maybe get this before the rosewood ones are gone.

This modded RW Jag is one of the few I've let go of that I've really missed:

Really wanted LPB. But it's a matching headstock so I'll keep it

It's the American Vintage '64.audiopablo wrote:Is that the classic 60s telecaster? I'm cisidering that very one. I don't need another tele, but I' want to maybe get this before the rosewood ones are gone.
Being Lacquer, I guess the finish of the classic 60's will be more or less the same, but I'm not sure.

The lacquer on the Classic '60 is a tad darker than the one on the AVRI '64.
@gawanti: that neck: tell me more about it?!?

Got it. I think the classic 60s is only poly for some reason. I'll double check that. That AV64 is some sweet tele goodness. With new twins, I'll have to wait until they're at college to consider that

Yes, it's poly. I meant to write "finish", but wrote lacquer, because I had a sudden case of shit-to-the-brain.

It's an Allparts . An eBayer by the name of Soundcheck relics and sells them one or two at a time. I've seen him offer a few B&B too. The neck profile was very comfortable, but I had to do a fair bit of work on the sharp edges of the nut, frets, and especially the binding. OSG member Joeybsyc painted the headstock. It wasn't an exact match but definitely well within the range of body/neck difference exhibited on vintage custom colors.MrFingers wrote:@gawanti: that neck: tell me more about it?!?

Your case of shit-to-the-brain was actually a moment of insight!MrFingers wrote:Yes, it's poly. I meant to write "finish", but wrote lacquer, because I had a sudden case of shit-to-the-brain.
In 2013, Fender changed the finish of the MIM classic-series from poly to nitro.
'Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer' as they called it.

On my side of the pond, those bound (let alone block & bound) allparts necks are impossible to find sadly enough . Will keep my eyes open though. Thanks for the input.
@otis: that's a parallel line I think: you've got the regular Classic '60 (white, black, CAR), which is poly (I have the white one), and then there is the Classic Lacquer, but those don't exist in '60 version (only white blonde in the '50).

It's such a gorgeous metallic finish, I love the way it takes different hues of lighting.
Reminds me, we did a P-Classic V in CAR (20 very thin layers nitrocellulose lacquer) for a North American customer this Spring that came out quite tasty (shown under LED lighting).
And a CAR fretless J-Classic IV, epoxy on lined Makassar ebony, from last year (shop fluorescent lighting).

Re: Candy Apple Red appreciation thread
A long overdue thread. I'd put the AV '65 Jaguar variant of CAR against any guitar in history:
