Previously, Olivia's Vintage bought this one for and sold it for around 2.5K

Re: Custom/Maverick?
awesome man! thanks, i would really love to have one they are so awesome looking!
how much did you pay for yours?
that is one guitar i could dish out $2,500 for because if they EVER become super popular then OMG with there only being 600-800! but i would never sell it just like i'm never selling my 66 Jazzmaster(which i payed $2,500)
how does it sound? how do its play?
Thanks!

Re: Custom/Maverick?
There was a very clean one at the Philly Guitar Show last weekend.
I can't remember the price. The dealer is into weird Fenders. he has had some cool Coronados in the past and had a Competition Burgundy (Purpleburst) Mustang Bass in the booth. Very nice guy.
They veneered over the front and back of the headstock to hide the holes. The last batch had necks made specifically for the model...no veneer.
Look at the back...painted black to hide the very bad job they did of plugging the hole from the rear mounted string unit.
Rick Nielsen has an original one in Fiesta red (painted head), and I have seen a credible picture of one in Burgundy Mist (non-painted head).
Wacky stuff!

Competition Stripes make them play FASTER.

Re: Custom/Maverick?
i paid $1300 for mine (refinished) about 1.5 years ago. I saw one sell on eBay for $800 not too long after. A few months ago, one sold on instrument exchange for about $1200. Sound is excellent, the 4th position is different from an electric xii. i use it as my main guitar, i also have sound clips if youre interested. i'm holding mine in my little avatar photo thing
you're getting way too much reverb ...

Re: Custom/Maverick?
In the early nineties I found a Custom in a shop on Denmark Street in London. I couldn't afford the 500 GBP they wanted for it. The first one I ever saw in action, BTW, was Hugo Race's one. Here's a vid, which may not be everyone's cup of tea.
In this little clip (a deleted scene from the film "Queen of the damned") Rowland S. Howard plays Race's Custom.

I like them. Much more so now that I have a XII and have been exposed to the lovely tone of the split single pickups.

Re: Custom/Maverick?
indeedy!
i need a xii to finish my set ( although i prob need some work on jazzmaster too)
the set would be
'65 jazzmaster ( to be refin-stripped at moment + non original neck)
'69 Custom
'66-'69 xii
I've found one in miami on gbase, but i live in uk.. i might be taking a vacation soon!
Tim Buckley you tube clips are ace.. i would love a custom colour but realistically a stripped would be cheaper andmore in my price range & suit me fine and i could get it refined or just leave it as it is..
whats the retail on a well worn stripped?
