Firemist, OTM and Aztec Thinskin JMs at Wildwood

Just an FYI, no affiliation. I know firemist and OTM are sought after. Sadly I can't afford one.

Nice. A couple of light ones in there, too.

Damn, even the Strats look a million bucks.

Yeah, charming  Would if I could, but I think the CITES export restrictions on rosewood are going to prevent that at any rate.

Nice to see they are getting thicker necks on these JMs - my complaint with the normal AVRI JMs I've played has always been the paper thin necks.

Fuck the thick neck bandwagon. Hope it burns in a ditch. Tired of all the guitars getting fat obese hand necks. Adapt or buy Telecasters forever. Stop trying to make every guitar build have unnecessarily big necks. I have big hands, but I HATE fat necks. Causes cramps and makes lead playing a pain in the ass.
Sorry, but I am tiring of this bandwagon. TGP is brainwashed for big necks and meme capacitors.

Whoah there. I'm actually with you on this, in that I prefer the tiniest necks possible (thin and/or A-width), but I have been playing long enough (20 years) to know that different peoples' hands do best with different necks. Fat necks cramp my hand. Skinny necks cramp my friend's hand, because he has fingers like twice my size. No such thing as one-size-fits-all.

Having said that, I'd die and go to heaven if vintage reissue series guitars starting offering skinny A-width necks like they did in the early-mid '60s.

There's a bandwagon? Guess I've been on it for 25 years, then. There are plenty of guitars with thin necks - this was a model that traditionally didn't have anything *but* thin. I also don't know if we can call .85" 'fat', but it gets into territory that is comfortable for me.

Different strokes.

Vintage 65 JMs had thicker necks. You seem to be under the impressions vintage JMs had nothing but thin necks in the 50s and 60s. You can find necks of all shapes and sizes throughout the 60s, some quite FAT, but the mid-60s tend to be chunkier.

AVRI62s and the Lacquer 60s guitars have thinner necks. Japanese necks tend to be thin too. If you like those, buy one of those. Plenty to choose from.

AV65s are period-correct with their chunkier necks. So people who like those can buy one of those. They certainly aren't "baseball bat sized", though. They have a very noticeable taper and get chunkier as you go up the neck. At the nut, they aren't very thick.

What's the problem?

Personally the neck on my AV65 Jag was not very comfortable for me when I got it. It felt too chunky, as I was used to, and preferred, thinner necks (I have average size hands, FWIW). After about a year, something changed (I guess my hand adapted), and now it's my favorite neck ever. Thinner necks, in contrast, are no longer very comfortable for me.

Haven't picked up an AV65 Jag before - how do those compare in size to these WWs, or to the normal 62/65s? I feel like the last one I played was a 65 (bound neck, as I recall) and it had a very thin neck.
