Long time offset-less.. back in the game!

Post by Soiouz » Mon Apr 17, 2017 4:18 am

Just a Road Worn, but it's a start. It sounds great. It had been a long time since I enjoyed playing a guitar that much.

Already ordered a 9- hole gold guard from Tone Guard, but might go for a vintage tort pickguard down the road. For now, it feels good to be back and play!

Nice one!!

Since you're going gold guard, may I suggest black pickup covers? 2-tone burst with gold guard and black pups is the Corn Flakes of JM colour schemes - "the original and best"!

Oh, you can suggest it. But I will keep the aged white covers. I am going for a full on 1959 looks. ;)

FWIW, black pickup covers are the O.G. look, though technically that's '58 and not '59. And it's glorious:

Here's a colour photo of an AVRI given the '58 treatment:

I'll shut up now. '59 looks are great too. I'm just trying to live out my dream of having a '58 JM vicariously through others :D

It's not really a new T.V. ;)

The TV is a 1959 Philco Predicta Holiday. I had it rebuilt, and the chassis now works flawlessly... Except I busted the CRT the first day I got it back from the tech.. I've been looking for a good CRT for over a year now.

Definitely do a gold guard, definitely don't do black pickup covers. I hate that look and your gear has historically been filled with excellent choices that I have continuously tried to rival.

Also, welcome back! You've been sorely missed! :)

Hey! Thanks for the good words!

Yeah, I hate the black covers look too. No wonder they never really made it into production.

I just secured a deal on a nice amp too: 1962 Brownface Bandmaster.. cannot wait to get that combo together.

Great guitar! I'd totally leave the white pickguard, I think on a Jazzmaster it looks real classy with the sunburst-rosewood look (as opposed to on a Strat).

Sorry to hijack but how did the CRT break? You mean you broke the actual tube glass?

I am in the '58 gold guard / black pickup covers / barrel knob camp.
Black, Goldguard, Tort, Mint, would all be better then white for 3 tone sunburst IMHO.

No, I believe it's a matter of too much power on one of the filaments or something... I am really not well versed in old TV technology, I am just trying to translate what my old tech told me.. Result is a very feeble signal and a small image projection in the middle of the screen, in a squarish shape.
