Fender Jaguar '66 reissue
So I've finally have decided the guitar I want. After playing with a Squier Jazzmaster for the past couple of years, I think I'd benefit from having a shorter scale.
The Jaguar has to be:
- sunburst
- single coil pickups, none of the HH Kurt Cobain types
- trapezoidal fret inlays
The final piece for me would be to get a gold pickguard.
The trouble is, and I'm aware you can't get it with the gold pickguard, there's so few around!
Here's 2 I've found:
https://reverb.com/uk/item/4182788-fend ... urst-japan
https://reverb.com/item/4223544-fender ... urn false;
I haven't purchased one just yet as I'm sceptical Reverb.com inflate their prices as much as possible.
I'm willing to spend £1000/$1250 for one. Does anyone have any recommendations of where I can find one?
And any other advice would be much appreciated.

Both look great particularly the 2nd one. Both are well under your price range & it looks like they accept offers. Rock n Roll!!!

Reverb is just a selling platform like eBay or Gumtree; they have nothing to do with setting the prices. The reason those prices are so high is because the sellers are in the USA and the £ has tanked against the $ (and the Euro/most other currencies) since the Brexit referendum was called, never mind won by the wrong side.mr_november wrote:I haven't purchased one just yet as I'm sceptical Reverb.com inflate their prices as much as possible.

£1000+ is a ridiculous amount to pay for a used MIJ Jaguar, even a somewhat rarer B&B one. They were selling for £699 new when they were current a few years back, so there must be plenty of them out there. You need to find someone in the UK selling one, because importing one from the USA or Japan is a big no-no with the £ in its current state, and even the absence of customs charges and a slightly lower shipping cost means getting one from the EU isn't too wise given the strength of the Euro against the £.
I can fully understand that you want what you want and you want it yesterday, but I recommend being patient. Do a saved search on eBay with email notifications whenever a new Jaguar is listed in the UK, or log in every morning and evening and check what's available, while also regularly checking Gumtree/Facebook for one. One will show up eventually.
Be ready to hit Buy It Now pronto if you see one that fits the bill on eBay; trying to win an auction might mean getting into a bidding war and paying more.

By the way, those are block inlays; trapezoid inlays are more of a Gibson thing.

Sorry to slightly derail but you're the second person I've seen mention facebook for selling and buying guitars. Where exactly are you looking/how are you searching?UlricvonCatalyst wrote:I can fully understand that you want what you want and you want it yesterday, but I recommend being patient. There are Facebook groups you can join. I'm a member of 'Music Gear Buy/Sell in Glasgow/Edinburgh (Central Scotland)', 'Pro Music Gear Scotland' and 'UK Guitar/Amp/Gear Exchange'. There are probably others covering every area and specialism.simonhpieman wrote:Sorry to slightly derail but you're the second person I've seen mention facebook for selling and buying guitars. (not in the market for a 66B, by the way!)

I'd also recommend being patient and buying locally. The massive swing in the exchange rate plus the punitive import charges make buying an MIJ from abroad really expensive for you - nearly double the price of what they cost new just a few years ago.
£1000 for a used MIJ just sounds nuts to me. Even with the current exchange rate, that's about double what I'd be paying for one locally as a Canadian.

Thanks guys. I had a suspicion they were steep for MIJs, I mean I bought and sold a beautiful 62 Telecaster for £400!mbene085 wrote:I'd also recommend being patient and buying locally. You could probably find an AVRI Jaguar for close to that price honestly. More bang for your buck as well...food for thought.

Pretty sure AVRIs don't have a block and binding neck option, so they wouldn't fit the OP's brief.drmw93 wrote:You could probably find an AVRI Jaguar for close to that price honestly. More bang for your buck as well...food for thought.
