Yep, just 5 screw holes plus the hole for the ground wire.

It looks a bit messy under the bridge, which people should consider if they are thinking of fitting it with a Mustang bridge and Jag tremolo.

Here's an indoor pic, trying to show the cream pearl.

The neck pickup is from a MIM strat. Sounds good but when combined with the humbucker the signal drops.
Anyone know what I can do about that? Do I reverse the wires?

Yeah. Sounds like they are out of phase. Probably easiest to switch the neck since it is just two wires. :)

Although it could just be output related unless you mean neck to middle position has volume drop. With a humbucker going from neck or middle to bridge will have a volume difference since the humbucker is higher output then a single coil. :D

Wow, that pickguard turned out really nice. I was looking through my stuff for a single coil for another project and found a DiMarzio DP163 BluesBucker that I'll probably put in my Black Bullet Mustang that's still set up as a HH.

hmm, you lost me there but yeah, I think I'll just reverse the neck pickup wires and see if that works.

Finally got to check out the hardtail JM today. Hell of a guitar for $200. Not crazy about the neck finish though.

That's good info on the pickguard.

Basically when you have the humbucker on alone, it will be louder than the other two toggle positions with the neck pickup mixed in because the humbucker is higher output. Once in the middle toggle position with both pickups on, going to neck only with the toggle should have similar volume. :)

This is just a quick update for my second Squier Bullet Mustang mod (this one in Imperial Blue) with dual single coil pickups and standard Mustang slide switches. I haven't had much time to work on it recently but today I took time to do some routing.

For this current mod I had to take the hand-router to two areas inside the swimming pool.

One area (top of the pool) is a must to make room for the slide switches.

The second area is along the bridge side of the pool where and I took a little material away to accommodate the bridge pickup (the necessity of this route depends upon the pickup placement).

I then applied Acheson Electrodag shielding paint and will paint the entire cavity with electrodag before putting it all back together.

The pics show another tortie pickguard which looks fine to me but I have a couple of other pickguard ideas that I’m considering and I’m still deciding on the pickups.

That’s all for now. These guitars sure are fun to mod.

My Hardtail JM arrived today - overall, I'm very impressed with the fit/finish!

Wiring was tidy, and everything was nicely aligned. Materials were okay - maple on the neck was very nice, rosewood was kinda unattractive, but no knots or other signs of it being an inexpensive guitar. Not much time was spent on the contours, but on the plus side this square-ish-ness makes the body seem like it isn't any thinner than a regular Jazzmaster.

I learned that the neck pocket is a bit too narrow for a MIM Strat neck - ...better than it being too big! After a little sanding, the neck fits fine:

Also, some routing would be required if you want to put Jazzmaster pickups in their standard locations:

I'm deciding between the Bronze Pearl or Blue Pearl pickguard for my S/S blue Bullet Mustang.

Here's how the blue one looks against the body (I'll mod slightly to fit the Squier's hardtail bridge).
