This would be my approach... Breaking with the JM shape, but detailed in an offbeat G&L way. I think it's important that it should capture the essence of the JM as it was when released - a premium Fender for serious players used to their classy Gibsons.

Those pickups, whatever they are (staple top P90s?), look crazy and weird and I love them.

According to UpFront Guitars' Facebook page: "The G&L Doheny, official launch on September 12. Featuring G&L's new JM-style MFD pickup." (Emphasis mine.)

Just wait, though, they'll only be available in Belair Green, sunburst, white, and black.

No. The correct answer is obviously that it is used to guide the frog safely to the other side of the road.
