For the Custom Shop theory... here's the John Cruz sticker curiously placed on the trem... as reported on other Yamano special order guitars from this run...


As to the thickness of paint theory, you can tell how much thicker my 2006 AVRI '62 in IBM is...

So cool - with the all-vintage-correct specs and the thin coat of rare custom colours, that's the ultimate AVRI.

I've seen Sherwood Green AVRI62 JMs from 1999-2000 with the same Cruz sticker, or Cruz signature under the pickguard. It seems he was heavily involved in the production at least during the first year of the guitars, even the "normal" American ones.

I seem to remember reading in some Fender history that the AVRI JMs and Jags were developed by the Custom Shop after having studied vintage examples and releasing some one-offs in ~1996-1998, but who knows, that could be just marketing talk.

Congrats, and cool that about the '94 JM. I have the same thing since '98 but sans tremolo bar which I lost recently.
