I did a mock-up with a tortoiseshell pickguard, I got an AVRI tortoise shell pickguard just waiting for this sucker to arrive (although the gold doesn't look bad either, we'll see...) I'm at work atm so I don't got Photoshop for white or black though, sorry papi.

I'm not usually a big tortoiseshell fan, but this looks good actually!

I've given in to GAS and ordered one. I might get a white guard to try out, although I think a black pick guard with black pup covers and knobs would look awesome too

You really can't go wrong. Any of those colours would look great, though I'm not usually a fan of tort (because most modern torts look bad, and few guitars are expensive enough to justify a spitfire IMO).

Oh jeez, in the video you can see how deep and metallic the finish looks. It seemed flatter in the photos. Willpower weakening...

The issues aren't anything major, just a few small things that add up to be annoying. Some small marks on the finish (which would happen eventually through use, just annoying to get it out of the box like that), the nut seems like it was cut with a piece of paper, it definitely needs to be filed a bit more, and there's buzz on the two top strings played open, which might be because of the nut or bridge related? Not sure, because I've never played a JM with the Mustang style bridge until now. The tone knob is not straight (or is it supposed to be 'offset'?), so it rubs the pick guard and because that's metal, it seems to have ground off a little bit of plastic as there's a small ring of knob dust on the pick guard. And there's some glue or something in the truss rod hole which just looks ugly, again it could be addressed, but annoying that this seemingly wasn't caught at the factory.

It's just a bit off-putting and annoying when I've had £120 guitars that have been nicer out of the box than this.

The metallic purple is very cool though.

well it has a bridge that is more usuable for most people out of the box. on the other hand they tend to be set up less competently out of the box, and stuff like the trem is clearly lower quality (although it does the job well enough)

I had a CIJ JM a couple of years ago and GASing for a new one. But need to check out the specs to compare. Ideally looking for an American. Checked out the ultras but didn’t get the chance to play one.

Looks like Anderson’s are sold out now. Although should be getting 60 more in September.
