I will say that my baked maple Firebird has a pretty light colored fingerboard, and I have thought about darkening it. Never really bothered, though.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Agreed. It’s more of a design issue for me than anything else. I would have never thought I’d own a Jazzmaster with a maple neck but with Mystic Seafoam finish & mint guard the design just looks right to me.Johnny Alien wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 6:25 amI agree with Larry in that I don't actually have a preference from a playing perspective. I am not sure it even makes a huge tonal difference. Because of that I buy totally on what I think looks good. That's why I can't get behind these new light boards. They look like really pale dry rosewood.
I just have to see it and see if it works...but something looks off with these Pau Ferro boards from a design perspective. Of course it’s all subjective.

maybe someone who refinishes guitars should offer a fretboard dyeing service

CME you make life difficult! I love the color AND they used PV65's instead of the standard CP pickups! This is for sure my dream color on a JM... I have an Olympic White and I love the changes made, sure the TOM isn't a Mastery but it works!! No Problems.
Also I didn't have to open the thread to know Larry already posted something negative about it.. haha!

Yeah. I planned on buying two guitars this year. A 60th Anniversary Jazzmaster and a Doheny.
This has me seriously rethinking my plans.

I don't like the pale pau ferro looks either. I wonder if it would darken with some dye mixed into linseed oil. But I agree with sentiments expressed above, Fender doesn't need a new "limited run" "store special" bla bla bla thing, but perhaps consider changing the color of the 60s Lacquer and Road Worn models for a while. Wouldn't that be quite easy?

I played several Fenders with Pau Ferro boards over the weekend. The color looks fine in person. In fact, I didn't even really notice it on most of them. One looked a tad pale, but it didn't look bad. The grain was nice on each of them and they felt just fine.
I don't get the fuss people are making over this wood.
You guys are nuts.

Just popping in to make sure I wasn't the only one who hated the color of the fretboard. Close, CME, but no cigar.
So far, every single picture of one of these new Pau Ferro boards looks like crap- it's definitely a pattern at this point. Haven't seen one in the wild, though. An old bandmate had an SRV sig Strat with a Pau Ferro board that looked OK though, so it's not endemic.
I was under the impression that the Lacquer '60s was going away, in favor of the new '60s Anniversary model.

CME orders special runs all the time. I suggested they do a 60's Lacquer in Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock if they were going to do a Jaguar. They liked the feedback and sounded very open to the idea.

Goddamn, I don't need any more offsets, but if they did that, I'd get weak in the knees.

I would absolutely buy one of those. That's exactly what I've wanted in a Jag for a long time.

Send them a message on reverb if you like the jag idea.

Re: CME Exclusive Lake Placid Blue Classic Player JM
All of the pau ferro guitars at local GCs that I've seen lean toward very light with orange stripes, but the boards also seem dry as a bone so that may not help.
