" That tummy cut is overdone, however."

How do ya know... seen 'em all?

“There were none that looked like this:”

None?? again have ya seen ‘em all… ?

the Contours were cut by hand,., then by hand, finish shaded against industrial machines.. compound that by the number of different workers that did them over the years.. and,, as has been said, no two were ever exactly alike, they couldn’t be…

But… something to consider… I’m not Fender ca: 1963 am I, so there’s no reason I cannot do what the workers back then did, make ‘em like that felt they should have been. :P

And.. if ya want those skanky little understated contours, well..there still being made and readily available aren’t they?

Ive seen a few vintage ones all I can say is each one looked different. I like vintage spec guitars, but I think we all agree this aint one.

Once mastery hardware, modern switching and fancy wood starts getting used theres no way its ever going to be a closet classic. I own a few of Ron’s guitars and him and I have similar taste so when it comes to design stuff, I let him work and I have never been disappointed.

One of the nice things about a custom guitar is the uniqueness of it and little touches like the contour, the recessed trem, etc are what make it one of a kind. Ive never built a body, but I imagine there’s some added skill required to run the contour out to the horn and keep all the lines parallel and everything symmetrical like Ron did. I see it like a hot rodded car but I get it, some people want a 100 point resto. If that was my thing, Ron w ulda built it but I figure we mights as well have some fun while were at it since its a custom guitar.

Yup! Ron does it his way. If you wanted a Fender, there are plenty out there. Custom guitars are.... custom. :)

I think of customs like a signature guitar. If you just want a sunburst Jazzmaster, get one. There are loads of them. Just adding your name to it doesn't make it a signature if that is the only difference between one off the shelf. I like customs that have things you don't see in the off the shelf versions. :) As a well fed American, I don't have an issue with a slightly bigger tummy cut. LOL :D

i've sold guitars since 1984, so i've seen quite a few Fender but not them all; no-one has.
The belly cut is something i watch for because i've always found it interesting and how it subtly changed over the years.
I guess i like curves. ;) i bet most of us do on OSG!
At the same time, I bet no-one can find a photo of an original vintage with a cut like that.
Nevertheless, my 'overdone' comment was generalizing and a bit unnecessary. I apologize for that.
Everyone knows Kirn's guitars to be excellent and the examples seen in this thread are no exception.

Jaguars are on the heavy side, I can see the more 'enthusiastic' contouring being a benefit to shaving off a little extra weight.

Has anyone done that cool looking recessed trem before other than Ron ? As I said earlier it seems like it would help with down force on the bridge. I guess we need more people to build them like that to know if it's a more efficient approach than all the other stuff that people try to achieve that end.
It doesn't look like to would be too difficult to add to an existing guitar if you had the router setup and a simple template.

OP: This looks so hot, along with the other examples posted in this thread. Incredible work. I once asked a random question on TGP and Ron emailed me with answers / diagrams / encouragement. What a top dude.

I think the Marr has a deeper cut as well, somewhat similar to this example. It makes it more playable and perhaps alleviates the weight a little as someone else said. I am probably lucky to own one of the few (only?) sub-7lb Jags in existence ;)

I can't imagine complaining about a deep belly cut. I see it as a bonus, or something I'd request. I'm not obese or anything, it's just super comfy.

I think BilT did this with the Volare to solve the problem of mounting the trem on a curved top.

Unfortunately when routing the recess for the bridge, with a brand new router bit, there was router tear out. Ron tried to salvage it, but it was still going to show over the smooth finish, so a new body had to be made. Then it had to be primed and sprayed again, dry for awhile and now it is coming together this week.

Heres the new body after some sonic blue:

The belly cut isnt as pronounced as before, which should please some of the purist... thats just how this one came out, no two being alike.
And here it is during final polish with a little polish residue.
