NGD: 2004 AVRI 62 IBM Jag
Gotten pretty lucky with offsets the last couple weeks, first with a legit 1962 sunburst Jag and now this 20 year old AVRI! Found it locally on craigslist for a good price so I had to snag it! Ice blue metallic is such a lovely color, especially when the sun hits it full on…pics just don’t do it justice! I had a CME Player series Jazzmaster in IBM a few years ago that looked killer, but the finish on this Jag just shines like something else!
The guy I got it from also included a staytrem bridge and arm/collet set so those will be going on the next time I get it setup. It’s got flats on it now which feel and sound great
Mainly got this for when I don’t want to take my vintage Jag places and as of right now it plays and feels a bit better, though I haven’t had the vintage Jag set up yet so we’ll see how things compare then.
I had an AV65 for a brief moment and while it was a wonderful instrument I think the AVRI wins out for me on every aspect except the neck pickup, which I think is just a tad too dark. Might get some regular strings on it soon and see how that changes my thoughts on it though

Oh wow what a score! Looks like it’s hardly been played.

Congratulations! Beautiful guitar. Those AVRIs are pretty tough -- I think the poly undercoat results in a more durable finish. I have a 2002 in the same color, and it's held up a lot better than my newer "nitro" Fenders with comparable hours on them.

Thanks! Yeah there’s just a slight bit of wear at the arm contour and a couple tiny dings/chips on the backside but that’s it!Steadyriot. wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 8:36 pmOh wow what a score! Looks like it’s hardly been played.

IBM isn't one of my favourite colours on most Fenders but damn, with a white pickguard and rosewood neck it looks super pretty, and in your case basically like new from most angles. Only wear I can see is easy to fix - clearly it's been left with the mute up at some point(s) so the foam is a bit indented, but it's a pretty small thing.
Yeah I'd definitely take that in preference to a vintage Jag - those things, like all vintage guitars, are too valuable to be taking out to gigs where it might get rowdy. Also if you ever feel the need to change the pickups or anything else that isn't easily reversible, you're not hitting the value of a potentially all-original guitar with any mods whatsoever. It's a smart move for lots of reasons.
SCORE!

Beautiful guitar - congrats! Interested in your opinion on how the neck compares with the AV65. Were the profiles quite different?

Nice. I think that's probably one of the best colours for Jaguars.

Thanks! Yeah I do prefer the toughness of this finish over the finish of the AV65 JM and Jag I’ve had. There’s not even one bit of checking on this thing yet lol

Get one! Between the aesthetics, playability, and versatility of sound this is the best thing Leo ever designed IMO

Agreed, the darkness of the rosewood, along with the contrast of the mint guard against IBM is such a great combo! The mint guard on the IBM CME Player JM I had just didn’t look as good for whatever reason, maybe it was the shade of mint they used for the pickguard or the orangeness of the pau ferro fretboard. I think the chrome control plates really help set it off toocrazyzeke wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 2:54 amIBM isn't one of my favourite colours on most Fenders but damn, with a white pickguard and rosewood neck it looks super pretty, and in your case basically like new from most angles. Yeah no biggie about the foam, I was actually thinking about just removing the mute altogether since I never really use it

Re: NGD: 2004 AVRI 62 IBM Jag
The AV65 neck seemed to have a bit of a shoulder, especially because of the binding. The AVRI neck is more of a continuous curve to the edge of the fretboard, if that makes sense. And the AV65 definitely seemed a little thicker. Don’t get me wrong though, both are nice! I would just go for the AVRI neck every time if I had the choiceflying_squad wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 2:57 amBeautiful guitar - congrats! It really is! Never truly appreciated IBM til I opened the case and saw how it glowed in the evening sunlight. Burgundy mist is still my ultimate jag color tho, especially with a matching headstocktequila_in_teacups wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 3:02 amNice.
