Should we do a petition for Fender to do an AV66 Jag?

Discussion of newer designs, copies and reissue offset-waist instruments.

Anything that gets a bit more love/interest in the Jag gets my vote, although I love the dots no-binding 7.25" necks most of all, precisely because they're very un-Gibson in a lot of ways. I'll take C over V in terms of shape, one concession to something more modern.

B&B on a Jag looks really premium but simple is better in terms of neck feel, probably part of what stopped me buying a CIJ AV66 direct from Ishibashi in the early 2000s even though I still wish I had a LPB finished one.

I’d love to see another AV Jag but would preferably want a pre neck binding year like 64 or something.
I mean, the Marr is pretty much a 65ri without binding…
Yeah I guess you’re right lol. I just want a BMM or CFM with matching headstock Jag without having to pay custom shop or thin skin prices for one! Some staggered pole AV Jag pickups would be cool too

I like the idea - but they did the 60th anniversary model that was..... kind of a 66 spec.

I think they should do one though - no doubt
But they did it wrong. Doesn’t count
;)

True - Theoretically though it could be used as a template for an AV66 model. Bound/Blocks, AV65/66 pickups....

I have said it before - but I am not in FMIC marketing so... - make a base model in SB and 1 or 2 other "core" colors then every year make a couple runs of a custom color with matching headcap...
2025 - LPB and Olympic WHite
2026 - Fiesta Red and inca Silver
2027 - Aztec Gold and Black
2028 - Dakota Red and Sonic Blue
etc, etc...

I think they should do this with the Jazzmasters too.

The problem though - in todays market what will they be? 2500-2600 USD?

Yep, a 63 or 64 with clay dots and matching headstock would be amazing. I'd much rather have that.

Such a bummer that at some point there was a plan to do one but it just never happened and doesn’t look like it’s coming now

I still think may do it….
It might be like a mid line refresh or something next yearish.

They’re putting way too many resources into this ‘year of the strat’ nonsense sadly

I saw part of that "let's get famous players to butcher their way through a too-fast tempo version of Voodoo Chile" YouTube promo and turned it off in disgust in less than 30 seconds, so I'm hoping not all of the "Strat is 70" stuff is that cringe.

My thoughts on a petition:

I'm not sure if Fender would every do anything, but...

Has the group here considered bringing a "petition" to a larger dealer?

Example: Get 30 signatures of folks who are ready to put down a deposit on a US made specific-spec 66 Jaguar, and "shop the petition around" to the big stores. CME, Sweetwater, Wildwood, etc

One of those stores might latch onto the idea, turn that "petition" into a dealer select custom run, increase the production # to 100-200, and then offer it up to the public outside of the petition list.

(This may be worthy of a new thread altogether, i.e. how to persuade a dealer to do a special run) ;)

Great idea - but will fender do a FSR of a model not currently in production?

Not sure I have heard of one

This is actually probably the smartest approach for something like this holy shit. I wonder who to reach out to about something like that? Really good idea!

Definitely! Wildwood and CME have both had FSR stuff that had significantly different specs than anything they’d otherwise offer. I’m gonna send a few emails and see if I can’t at least find out if it’s a possibility

They don't have clay dot inlays or matching headstocks (outside of those rare thin skins). Fender did a Custom Shop '63 reissue last year, here's one in Inca Silver (they also made them in Burgundy Metallic Mist and Shoreline Gold):

Having these more widely available for a more reasonable price (the CS guitars were $5750!) would be awesome.

Also, Fender did an AVRI62 Strat reissue in the past, and currently offers an AVII '61 reissue, so it would be a pretty similar situation (ditto with the AV64 tele and current AVII '63 tele).

Yeah, we've had decades of dot neck Jags so far, the time for blocks is here.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?
