CIJ P serial JM
There's a CIJ Jazzmaster I'm tempted to buy, but need some answers first.
P serial says 1998-2002. All the CIJ/MIJ reissues I've had have all been terrific instruments, and I'm guessing this is also a very well made guitar. Looks to be all original and in good shape.
But..., what's the body made of? Some says basswood, other says alder. Who to believe?
Btw, it's CAR with matching headstock. My idea is to leave it as a traditional JM a bastard'ize my 'sherwood green' partso.

Generally, domestic solid-colour bodies are made of alder, export are often made of basswood. Only way to know is to look in the neck pocket. Where was it originally bought?TruckstopChuckie wrote:what's the body made of? Some says basswood, other says alder. Who to believe?

I'm asking the seller now. If he doesn't know I'll ask if he could check the neck pocket.
So there's really no other way to know, serial doesn't tell anything?
Is it possible to say anything from this photo? Not sure if it's the color of the wood that show or if it's the sealer...

Got a partso JM with a Fender AVRI '65 and a Novak that I might be putting in to the CIJ if I decide to buy it. Also got a baritone tele with Loureiro's that I've been thinking of swapping necks with another tele..., oh well. Still waiting for an answer from the seller. Meanwhile I've bought a Catalinbread Galileo MKI.

Nice! It's a matching headstsock, as any CC JM should be. Any plans for the pickups?

A Novak in the bridge and a AVRI 65 in the neck from my partso JM, which will have a set of GFS Surf90, at least first.
Both volume pots suppose to be scratchy, but thats an easy fix (got parts in my parts drawer). Also got a Staytrem waiting for it.

Nice. New pots, good pickups and a Staytrem on an MIJ - that'll be a great guitar!TruckstopChuckie wrote:A Novak in the bridge and a AVRI 65 in the neck from my partso JM, which will have a set of GFS Surf90, at least first.

NGD! CIJ Fender Jazzmaster CAR
Arrived. Quick setup (not pictured yet) with 11-50 and Staytrem. No shim. Nice and tight.
Still not sure about the wood, but leaning towards alder.

It's alder. They switched from basswood to alder in 91-92.
