Pet peeves w/forum functionalities

Post by Glimmer » Fri Mar 18, 2016 9:26 am

Though I have checked (each time) "log me in automatically at each visit" (or something like that), when I wish to comment in a thread I have to manually log in (each time). Then when I do log in in order to comment, it wants to take me back to the forum homepage, whence I must hunt for the thread I was just in and wanted to comment on. :frustrated face:

Any idea why I'm not being logged in automatically? Anything I can do about it?

Any way to get a link back to the thread one was just viewing when one logs in in the above situation?

TIA.

its a setting in your browser. You have to have it set to save page settings/cache/cookies otherwise it wont remember any settings for any page.
my only pet peeve w/ the forum is the search function. Its easier just to google the phase you're looking for then type "site:offsetguitars.com"
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Yeah, the search hasn't worked like a normal search ever, or at least since I've been here.

I don't have this problem at other forums, only here.

That said, I'll look into browser settings.

Looked into it. Specifically indicated that the browser should accept cookies from this forum (tho’ cookies are on and I've got dozens cached from others sites). Came back to this site a few hours later and I was still logged in. :)

Thank you for the suggestion.

FWIW, visiting the forum later in the day I needed to log in again, and again this morning. So even with the browser instructed to accept cookies from this forum it still doesn't keep me logged in. Not a catastrophe, of course, but a PITA all the same.

Not sure if there's anything to be done about it.

When you can only imbed x number of quotes inside each other. That's almost always sufficient, but I've been on forums that chop out the disallowed quote for you, which is better than pressing "post" and being told to go back and edit it out yourself. Also, the vanishing smilies phenomenon.
This is an excellent rectangle

Which browser are you using? I only get prompted to login every few weeks or so (presumably the cookie expires after a certain amount of time). This is with Chrome and Firefox.

I've been logged in for so long I can't remember what the rest of the internet looks like. Do people still use Ask Jeeves?

Vanishing smilies make me feel

I'm using Chrome, and visit 3 forums repeatedly every day. This is the only one I have to login virtually each time for.

i use mozilla because i'm old and dont like new technologies; and i've only ever had to log in twice. 1st time when I registered. 2nd time when my comp crashed and I had to buy a new one.
