.... I’d rather we all talked more.
I hear what you are saying.

I'm willing to talk more.

I've been shy and reticent for too long around here. It's time I came out of my shell, and with your encouragement, I think I can do it.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Thanks buddy! That's me and the Goofs. I thought I'd get a more recent picture up.

Depends on who you ask at any given time.

Personally I'd worry that having a like button might start to erode the amount of conversations. Perhaps I've read too much dystopian fiction but I worry about a slide into button pushing instead of longform contributions.
COMPLETELY agree. Can't stand all the little social media-like trappings. I prefer people engaging in real conversations instead of reducing them to buttons.

Perhaps I've read too much dystopian fiction but I worry about a slide into button pushing instead of longform contributions. However I'm not a Facebooker and I'm probably misunderstanding how these things work.

On the plus side anything that kills the vapid +1 or my all time OSG hate, the meme as reply, would always be welcome.

D
I get the sense of the hope that one who would hit like will instead post a response to indicate the liking.
Being new here I'm wondering where everybody is?

I've been a TDPRI member since 2010 and we only got the like button a couple of years ago.
I didn't see a reduction in posting, and the like function may have made it easier to quote and comment, because you could like the post you quoted and have less of a chance of sounding like your comment was argumentative.
Or not like it and then run the risk of appearing to disagree due to pointing out a different viewpoint.
I can live without the likes, and maybe a sense of comradery will grow just fine without that little plug.

I don't use emoji's though, so maybe I need to learn some new tricks!
No memes either...

One thing I wonder if i need to be concerned about:
It was implied in an early quote that OSG members are "level headed".
Can't say I'm entirely so, will that be a problem?

I'm a member of another forum that has a like button. It has one positive I can find... it eliminates the need for people to feel they need to go "me too" or "+1." Unfortunately, it's mostly turned the place into a popularity contest. The users who carry the most influence in the community at large, will gather a ton of likes from people regardless what they post—and so you get a hive mind clique-y thing going on that I find incredibly annoying.

A like button which does not tally up likes and give scores seems as if it solves the issues raised by both sides does it not?

I could see some use in that.
Logic gates based on billiard-ball computer designs have also been made to operate using live soldier crabs of the species Mictyris guinotae in place of the billiard balls.

see, we would have already saved one useless post cluttering up this thread.
