Big Guard SG Jr. Resto
This guitar came to me with a pretty bad refinish, contours sanded. Schallers installed, gross sounding humbucker literally taped in place. New bridge, two additional pots and switches. New nut. Thankfully, the wood, pickup, and original electronics are all there.
Essentially, going to undo all that. Have started removing finish, having to sand carefully as the existing finish is a pretty nasty poly(?) - stripper hasn't made a dent but it's pretty thin so a bit of light sanding seems to be working just fine. The plan is a relic'd Polaris white finish and a bigsby, but otherwise, all spec.
This is how it came to me.
And after a light little bit of work..

Sanding is almost done, few more days and I can probably spray primer.
This is the general look I want to go for, and I think it's HOT despite probably being a refin.
Thoughts?

I love SG Jrs, so good luck getting the job done. But why, oh why would anyone sand the contours on an SG body?????

I mean, it's noticeably more comfortable to play so that's chill, but other than that it's just obnoxiously frustrating.

I just love the Polaris! Steals my heart.mackerelmint wrote:Polaris junior is best junior

I've never liked the vibrolas, the bigsby should be a much better fit I think...

You do you. I've never gotten along with big guard SGs, so a bigsby won't hurt anything in my eyes.Altar wrote:I just love the Polaris! Steals my heart.mackerelmint wrote:Polaris junior is best junior

But I do love SG juniors and polaris white ones especially, so it'll be cool to see you bring it back from death's poo brown door.

Thanks for your input! I'm hoping it turns out nicely, in spite of the soft edges and "incorrect" finish.
Also, just found this in an old thread about this same guitar, made me smile:

Do all hole plugging necessary, spray in a decent colour of your choice (white or greened Pelham Blue gets my vote) & throw on a Bigsby.
