I ended up finding a pre-CBS body to match the neck - I painted it Shoreline Gold.
All the pieces are there, it's just waiting for me to have some time to block sand and buff out the paint.

What did you use for stripping? Product, set time, scrapers?

i have a 63 neck and I want to build the same kind of resurrected classic Jazzmaster.

What should I budget to accomplish this kind of a project?

Thanks anybody.

I'm not loyal to any one brand of paint stripper, I just go with whatever brand costs about $10 and is strong enough to come in a metal container.

I usually don't use a scraper to "scrape," since the paint stripper can wet the wood and make it easier to make a mark - I have a very old worn-out (corners rounded off) putty knife that I use to get the liquefied paint goop off of the guitar body without smearing it into the grain of the wood. I'll test a small area every so often to see when the paint has been turned into sludge - you'll find that if you don't wait long enough, you can wind up just wasting paint stripper, and if you wait too long, the stripper will start to dry out.

Once almost all of the paint that I want to remove is gone, I'll use a bit more fresh paint stripper and some steel wool to help get leftover paint out of the woodgrain.

---though sometimes if the paint is thin, I'll just sand it off. Paint stripper can be more of a hassle than dust!

There's a big range there in prices!

Depending on how choosy you are, it might take a long time to track down everything that you need. I'd recommend that you pick up a Squier Jazzmaster HH or some other cheap Squier Jazzmaster and do a neck swap so that you can still enjoy that neck while you search for all of the parts that you need.

My guess is that the parts would cost you in the 1500-2500 range if you go for all-original stuff.

Not too fond on the gold guard. Replace it with a 3-ply mint one, and I'll personally fly over to sunny California to man-wrestle that guitar away from you :?
