Re: '58 strat refin poll [UPDATE: new dilemma P3]
Well, sure. But we're talking about a refin anyway. Nobody but us nerds give a rip about the vintage angle, or how "correct" the finish is.
It should be what makes you happy, whatever that is.

Honestly, if a good veneer can be done, that would be a pretty good option too. What would that cost vs. just flaking it, though, and to what eventual benefit?
I know that Doc will think I'm a monster for saying it, but black is the safest, most boring option. Black would be like only ordering the same thing off the menu at that restaurant you love. It'd be like going to church to find a "nice" girl to date. It's the dick and jane of strat finishes.

Not with a white pickguard. All black everything with a maple neck looks amazing. The white ruins it. It's not like a tuxedo, it's like white socks with black shoes and highwater pants.DocCarlson wrote:Honestly a black maple '50s Strat is one of the sexiest instruments on the planet. Don't let the deluge of sub-par imitations with Squier decals and shit rosewood (or MEGAN ) distract you from what is the pinnacle of slick understated class in instrument form.

And like I said, nobody but us nerds have a single fuck to give about that. If it were original, it would be kinda special, sure. But it's a refin.DocCarlson wrote:Also, SUNBURST is the safest, most boring option for a 1958 Strat! Let's keep context in mind here, black wasn't the standard for Strats 'til the '70s! A black Fender in the '50s or '60s is quite rare!

I just voted metal flake.
Brad, you're a ridiculously good musician. Make this guitar YOURS. Sparkle guitars and vintage clothing has become your look. Rock it. This guitar should be no different.

I don't think that I could be any more biased toward metal flake. Joe Bonamassa aside, black's just not much to look at.
The white pickguard would work if the headstock were shaped and painted like a cartoon penguin.
