Not with a white pickguard. All black everything with a maple neck looks amazing. The white ruins it. It's not like a tuxedo, it's like white socks with black shoes and highwater pants.

Not to be personal, but I am baffled as to how someone who I assume probably vomits at the sight of Pink Floyd just described David Gilmour's number 1 strat.
Floyd with Sid Barrett I do. Kicking him to the curb was the best thing they ever did. Beyond that, I can mostly take 'em or leave 'em. I do have a quiet obsession with the engineering and arrangement on dark side of the moon, though.

Gilmour's craptastic uglycaster:

Like I said, the white ruins it. There is no place for white plastic anywhere on a strat that isn't blue, as far as I'm concerned.

It IS much better! I'm not big on strats generally, I think they tend toward the ugly side, but the "edge look" as you put it is understated and elegant.

Natural finished strats with black or tort are pretty good, so are sonic blue ones with white

sunburst w/black is OK

the rest are, like, dirty geo metro with the entire back end covered in bumper stickers level ick, IMO.

Now I know why we became friends in the first place.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

:D

He was awful, he was. I mean, in high school I used to take a bunch of drugs and then listen to both discs of ummagumma at the same time. And even then, I still couldn't fathom how anyone found PF with Syd Barrett to be anything approaching listenable.

Wait, you'd play both the records at the same time? Like on two record players, simultaneously?

Well, CD players but yeah. And I'd be really really high and/or tripping. It was utterly cacophanous, I mean half of it is basically Rick Wright demolishing pianos and yet no amount of drugs could make Syd Barrett sound a fraction as good.

^ Different strokes and all. I can't do Pink Floyd without Syd. In fact I can barely do them with Syd, but without Syd, no chance in hell.
Back to the guitar. That inlay really is hideous and I'd either want it gone (which you've said you've been advised against, and fair enough) or covered with the absolute certainty that it will never rear it's ugly pinwheel head again. But if you're using nitro, the paint will eventually wear off the pinwheel, won't it? That would kill me.
As for the colour, I wouldn't worry so much about whether or not it will appear "real". Fact is, it's not real and it's not ever going to be real. That ship has unfortunately sailed. It's a refinish (of a refinish). You just have to make sure it's the best refinish it can be. So I'd concentrate on getting the finish/colour combination you really want. I said it earlier in the thread but it bears repeating, the guitar is going to sound great in your hands regardless. The finish is just a bonus feature when all is said and done.

So what kind of assurances do you have that the terrible inlay won't foil this Nitro job like it did the last one? Something thicker (coughbumpyflakecough) may be better for burying it forever.
