Duo Sonic project - not 100% vintage correct, again!! DONE !
Hey all,
Now that I have received my neck, I can strat a thread!!
I loved to have a Mustang but never ever used the trem, I have just decided to build a Duo Sonic...long before building a new Jaguar, but the Jag body popped up and I couldn't resist .
So, this is my other project...and again, it won't be 100% vintage correct, because of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meP_Ufwj-FY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've always been fascinated by this scene, since I was a kid, and it's my philosophy with guitars right now !!!
I bought this perfect '65 body from Paul (PJazzmaster (Thanks again!!!)):
And I will put that '77 MM neck on this body:
The '77 MM neck I will put on my Jaguar project is my favorite neck of all time...I've decided to buy one from the same year, and so far so good!!!
Seems to be a perfect clone of my first one!!!!
I can't wait to play it.
Both of my project involve a '65 body and a '77 neck...
!!!
Anyway,
I am really happy with this build as well.
Happy Christmas to everyone,
raph

Niiice. I've been eyeing that body, and hoped that in time someone will do it justice.

New Pickguard day!!!
I really didn't know what to do about the pickguard with a red guitar...as I really dislike red with white and red with black.
I went the "boring" way and chose a tort one, to make a red on red guitar...
And I'm actually super happy with it!!!
It looks excellent to me:

Some small update here.
Some not 100% vintage correct,
A new Fender neck plate (because I will never spend 150 euros or so in a piece of steel when I can have it for 10 euros):
A minor update I know, but it gave me the tremendous joy to see the guitar in one piece:
I'm ecstatic , to me it's a major update

I received this two days ago,
It's a '66:
Check the misaligned extra holes!!
Those holes allowed me to have the plate for quite cheap.
Plus I couldn't resist, it's a touch of elegance (to me) and it's like saving a piece of history and use it again, even if (especially!!) it had been butchered ...
(and it gave me ideas for a XII project)
Then I got this string tree.
It comes from a '65 Tele (i guess). A friend of mine had this in his spare box.
It's completely rusted, I really like it:

I'm surprised at how good that red on red looks.
What pickups are you planning on putting in?

Merci, je trouve aussi !!mcjt wrote:c'est une jolie guitare!
I have to admit I'm surprised too...it actually looks more dark (or bloody??) in real life, and I can't catch it on pics.Tantalus wrote:I'm surprised at how good that red on red looks.

That's too bad because it's divine.
As for the pickups I've considered a lot of builders, but I will order a set of Mustang pups from MojoPickups.
I will order them tomorrow actually !!!
I'm really happy with the set of MojoPickups I have in my Part Jag, so...
And I will receive all the parts I need within the two next weeks...soon to be completed!!!

Re: Duo Sonic project - not 100% vintage correct, again!!
3 packages in the mail box today !!!
What was frightened me before the Jaguar project seems to excite me now,
All I need to wire things...with white switches:
Then I got this '66 control plate in quite poor shape.
I think I might have seen that plate in the for sale section a couple of months ago, I don't how I ended up with it but I'm very happy.
It looks very good in person and I really like how it looks on the guitar too...it's very less shiny than usual chrome plates and it suits me :
And finally a set of perfect '69 Mustang tuners, with originals bushings and screws.
They look very white on the pic, I don't know why...they are actually a bit more yellow, or aged white.
A lot less "new" as they seem to be on the pic.
Anyway,
I'm very happy, they are perfect (and it was a very good deal ):
I've also ordered my pichups to Marc at MojoPickups yesterday...just 3 weeks to wait now .

This is shaping up to be one badass guitar!
I never really like 'red on red' but this one really pulls it off! Most of the parts really pull together that 'not so pristine' look. I like it!
Those pristine white tuners have me thinking how some tort buttons would look.
Maybe even some of those tort topped tele / strat knobs. Tort galore!

That was one of the parts I was selling - nice to see that it has found a home!!raphaël wrote: Then I got this '66 control plate in quite poor shape.
